SAINT PETERSBURG, Russia -- A football forecasting feline has been ordained the official oracle of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Come again? Russia wants a cat to predict the winners.
The persnickety prognosticator named Achilles is one of the revered Hermitage cats who live at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
Cats have roamed the basement for centuries -- ever since Peter the Great’s daughter beckoned the biggest fur balls around to hunt palace rats.

Achilles, meanwhile, purr-fectly predicted Germany’s win over Chile in last year’s Confederations Cup final, by choosing to rest in the little cat house marked with a German flag.
The Hermitage cats’ press secretary says Achilles, who was born Deaf, can foretell anything.
But can he paw-sibly fare better than Paul the octopus, who correctly wrapped his tentacles around seven German victories and Spain’s championship at the 2010 World Cup?
We’ll find out a few months.
