Deaf Man Rescues Deer From Frozen River

WATCH: This Deaf man recorded the heartwarming aftermath of himself saving a young deer from an icy death.

DULUTH, MN -- A Bambi must have had a guardian angel looking out for him (or her) this week, after having gotten itself stuck in some icy water. Luckily for the deer, a Good Samaritan just happened to be driving by when he spotted the deer and sprung into action. The above video was likewise taken by the Good Samaritan, who happens to be Deaf, explaining what happened, one-handed signing as he holds the camera with the other hand.

The rescue of ‘Miss Ice River. The rescue of ‘Miss Ice River’: Duluth man saves deer from frigid water - video of a Deaf man next to an exhausted, ice-covered deer he just rescued from a frigid river has been making the rounds on the Internet in recent days.

If you don’t understand sign language, a family friend of the man who posted the video to Reddit was helpfully able to translate:

I was driving along when I see this deer struggling to survive. I felt obligated to help her, so I pulled over, trekked through the woods, and crawled out onto the ice. I used a rope to pull her out. I am so glad she is safe. Now we need to find her mom.

[After he pets deer] I will call her Miss Ice River. She must be so cold. I am so happy that she survived. Farewell.

Unfortunately there were no further updates and it’s to be assumed that the man went on his way after rescuing the deer, but since deer are pretty resilient, we can only assume it went on to survive the ordeal. I’m not sure how many “lives” deer are supposed to have, but hopefully this one stays off the ice (and out of traffic) from now on.

Tianjin Explosion & Aftermath Video Compilation

Massive explosion, dozens dead, areas of chinese port city devastated.

TIANJIN, China -- You can see the devastation everywhere: in the hollowed-out shells of buildings, in the anguished faces of relatives, in the parade of scorched cars. But what set off the terrifying explosions that ripped through warehouses containing hazardous chemical materials, shooting fireballs across the sky and shaking buildings more than 2 miles away?

Hours later, amid the destruction in this northern Chinese port city of more than 13 million people, the cause of Wednesday night's blast remained unclear.

A chemical odor hung in the air Thursday. Fires still burned in the thinly populated waterfront industrial district where the explosions went off. And the grim toll kept mounting.

Tianjin explosion from car dash cam, the massive explosion in Tianjin was caught on camera from a car's dash cam, showing both explosions. You can see the shockwave from the first explosion and then people running away followed by a much larger shockwave from the second explosion just seconds later.

Among the 50 confirmed dead are 17 firefighters, officials said Thursday. More than 700 people have been treated in hospitals, 71 in critical condition, the state-run Xinhua news outlet said. Dozens of people are reported to still be missing.

Authorities said more than 200 chemical specialists from the military had been sent in with detection devices. More than 1,000 firefighters have been trying to deal with the remaining fires.

Aerial footage found online shows a port area that was hit hard by two massive explosions in north China's city of Tianjin late Wednesday night.

The explosions originated at a warehouse site owned by Tianjin Dongjiang Port Rui Hai International Logistics Co., a company that stores and transports dangerous chemicals. Firefighters had reportedly been called to the area to tackle a blaze before the first blast went off.

Nearby highway, a petrol station at the Binhai New Development Zone is believed to be behind the cause of the fiery blast, roughly 90 miles southeast of Beijing. At the time of the explosion the ground was shaking fiercely, nearby cars and buildings were shaking, a few buildings' glass all broke and everyone started to run.

Company executives have been taken into custody, state media said. The blasts' destructive force tore into Tianjin, smashing buildings and mangling shipping containers.

The first explosion was huge, and the second was even more powerful: the equivalent of 21 metric tons of TNT or a magnitude-2.9 earthquake, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

Hurricane Sandy Aftermath Video

Hurricane Sandy aftermath. Inside the eerily still metropolis the day after Frankenstorm.

It blasted the ocean itself over dunes, seawalls and berms and into downtowns, tunnels and subways. It killed dozens of people, destroyed famed landmarks and amusement parks, pushed houses off their foundations and toppled trees.

It virtually shut down New York City, the nation's largest city, with major airports, highways, and bridges and tunnels in and out of Manhattan shut down, just as they were after 9/11.

For millions of people in New York City and elsewhere, the lights remain out, communications remain down and floodwaters, downed trees and power lines still make roads impassable.
