The ASL Radio Show - Light Up The Daily Moth

This is a GoFundMe campaign to raise $25,000 to light up the Daily Moth and ensure that it has a permanent part in our community.

The Deaf host ASL radio show, Alex Abenchuchan: "The word, "Deaf" is our own brand of human. It's something that identifies and connects all of us. We can and do celebrate our culture and our community every day."

That's why Abenchuchan started the Daily Moth, an online show that delivers news in video using American Sign Language. He cover trending stories and Deaf topics with a twist of humor and Deaf culture in new shows posted Mondays through Thursdays.

Many look at "deaf" as a medical term, as a kind of disability, or use this word to imply someone is ignoring you or is closed off from the world. Why does this happen? Because our community is constantly defined by those who aren't a part of the Deaf way of living. We are framed as a helpless group of people that needs help and therapy in order to be successful. And whatever few opportunities come our way, those with privilege take away.

How do we change this? We change this by taking back our own representation, by knowing what's going on in the world, especially events that directly impact our way of living. We change this by being inspired by those who blaze trails and by supporting those who are oppressed. The collective strength of our community is more than enough to blast through any barriers and build new platforms.

WFD - A Voice For Deaf Refugees

World Federation of the Deaf - A Voice for Deaf Refugees in American Sign Language by Isidore Niyongabo.

This video is about the first initiative to promote proper identification and humanitarian services for Deaf people in refugees camp, particularly those in developing countries.

It is a narrative debriefing of the first phase of this campaign as the the Author will travel to Republic of Turkey to present his research and findings at the World Federation of the Deaf World Congress in July 2015.

The purpose of this video if to raise funds for the first phase of this project.

Well, I have lived half my life through and I know first-hand how hard it can be. During my Graduate studies at the University of San Diego's Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, I was given the provileges to explore the current situation faced by other millions of Deaf men, women and children in developing countries.

There are unnacounted millions of Deaf refugees all over the world and currently, the United Nations High Commissariat on Refugees (UNHCR) and almost all international humanitarian organizations do not possess any system or procedures to properly identify refugees who are Deaf and provide them with proper humanitarian services or protections... Manitoba Deaf Athletes To Get More Sign Language Help

Deaf Sports News: Province to spend up to $40K a year for interpreters following human rights complaint.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The father of a Deaf athlete from Winnipeg says he is pleased to hear Manitoba will now be providing interpreters to help other deaf players communicate.

The Manitoba government will set aside up to $40,000 a year to help Deaf children participating in amateur sport communicate with their teammates, coaches and game officials, following a human rights complaint.

Two parents of Deaf children initially approached the Manitoba Human Rights Commission complaining that lack of money for sign language services made it harder for some Deaf children to participate in sports.

The parents said the lack of interpretive services meant their children couldn't participate fully in sports, develop leadership skills and have the same advantages as their peers.

One of the complainants, Rick Zimmer, says his son, Cody, wanted to play soccer but couldn't because there was no interpreter available for him and other Deaf players... Read The Full Story.

Deaf Family Survivors Oklahoma Tornado

Deaf family tells amazing story of survival. James Lee, lost home in Monday's Oklahoma monster tornado.

MOORE, Oklahoma -- The Lee family's home was destoryed during tornado in Moore, Okla., Dawnita, James, Josh Lee rode out storm, but lost home. No early tornado warning, James Lee is Deaf, could not heard sirens or wind. James sped to high school to pick up his son Josh and Lee family's pet cat has disappeared in rubble of home.

James Lee was at work and he had no idea what was going on and saw on TV there was a storm and he was trying to get through his work to get back and get his car because he was in a company car. He came all the way from Edmond trying to get through the traffic and everything. He couldn't get through to them. James couldn't get through.

So his son-in-law called and said his wife was safe and his son was safe. James' mother-in-law confirmed it. They were just so much grief. There needs to be shelters.
