This is the adorable moment a Deaf five year old girl received a doll just like her with hearing aids.
SYDNEY -- Abbi Keating, from New South Wales, Australia, lost her hearing at two years old - something that baffled doctors as she also stopped talking.
Her mum, Amy, 31, was devastated but quickly ensured her daughter was fitted with hearing aids and later underwent an operation to have a cochlear implant fitted - an electronic device that replaces the function of the ear.
Abbi longed for a doll just like her and spent hours drawing hearing devices onto her dolls with pen.

My Deaf Son Fought Speech, ASL Let Him Bloom
Hearing mother shares blog about his Deaf son: My Deaf Son Fought Speech. Sign Language Let Him Bloom.
NEW YORK CITY -- The hearing mother of a Deaf child has written a blog for The New York Times, "My Deaf Son Fought Speech. Sign Language Let Him Bloom." The writer, Elizabeth Engelman, works at the Family Center on Deafness in Largo, Florida and writes the blog OnDeafness.
I watched my toddler wade into the Gulf and launch a fistful of pebbles in flight. They glistened, tiny sparks of light, before I realized he was up to his chin in cold water. And I realized that if I called his name, if I screamed it, the word would sink like stone.
When Micah turned 2 we had learned that he was profoundly Deaf. In the audiologist’s office, an auditory brain response concluded he couldn’t hear a helicopter. “You’re taking this well,” the doctor had said. But later, as I watched Micah step deeper into the Gulf water, I wanted to rage. I was so angry, I could have torn the beach apart.
We celebrated his third birthday, and the audiologist turned his cochlear implants on for the first time.
I said, “Hi Micah, can you hear mommy?” His hazel eyes widened and he screamed in terror, his body trembling. Shock.
In American Sign Language, the sign for cochlear implant is similar to the sign for vampire. Vampire is signed with two fingers like teeth to the throat. Cochlear implant is signed with two fingers like teeth behind the ears. The audiologist told me not to sign at all. She said sign language was a crutch that would hinder his speech. When he heard my voice for the first time, his cry was guttural, a stab wound. He was bitten by sound.
The audiologist adjusted the pitch and tuned the levels to make a simulation of sound. She called this process mapping, but there were no guideposts to show the way. How do you chart loneliness? How do you trace a landscape of silence and sound between mother and son?
At home, I wrapped my legs around my toddler and pinned him to the carpet in what looked like a wrestling hold as I tried to keep the processors for his implants on his head. He was crying, and I was crying, and I wondered if my actions could be considered abuse.
He refused to wear the $18,000 sound processors, and his defiance was feral: head butts to my face, kicks, bites. The back of his head smacked against my jaw, and for a moment everything went black. The implant surgery alone had cost $50,000. Auditory verbal therapy was out of pocket, the doctors were out of network. What choice did I have but to force him?

Deaf Girl's Costume For School Photo Goes Viral
3-year-old Deaf toddler becomes internet's hero with this epic class picture day outfit.
ROCKLIN, California -- When 3-year-old Kaylieann Steinbach picks out her school outfits every morning there are no mismatched socks, bright colored blouses or pajama-like pants.
Instead, the little girl sticks with her favorite theme: superheroes.
That’s why the preschooler’s parents weren’t surprised by their daughter’s outfit choice on picture day at her school, Merryhill Preschool in Rocklin, California.
For two straight weeks, the little girl had been running around in her bright blue velvet Superman dress and matching red cape. In fact, she wore it so much, her parents even had to sneak into her room to wash it while she was in the bath.
But they still got a good chuckle when they opened up their mail a few weeks later and saw her adorable ensemble -- superman figurine included.
Kaylieann’s dad, Alex Steinbach, posted the hilarious school picture to Reddit, and it received nearly 5,000 upvotes.
“As proud as any parents can be we do our best to support her with everything, including outfit choices,” Steinbach told CBS News. “We always let her dress herself and her choices show her personality well.”
Every day, Kaylieann makes sure everyone in her class gets a friendly “hello.”
They often try to guess which outfit she’s going to go with that day.
Her parents say it’s safe to assume it will be some version of a superhero costume.
“Since we’ve always let her choose her outfit we will continue to let her,” Steinbach said. “She loves expressing herself with her choices.”
Steinbach can’t wait to hang the photo, which perfectly sums up Kaylieann’s spunky personality, on the wall.
“She’s already smarter than all of us parents combined! She surprises us everyday and leaves us speechless and with tummy aches from laughing,” Steinbach said.

Deaf Baby Hears Mother's Voice For First Time
WATCH: Deaf Idaho baby hears her mother's voice for the first time.
BOISE, ID -- This is the heart-warming moment a Deaf baby heard her mother's voice for the very first time.
Born profoundly Deaf, Annabelle Lawrence received two hearing aids on Wednesday and when they were turned on she couldn't hide her excitement.
When her mother Sarah Jo asked her if she could hear, the three-month-old broke into a massive gummy smile
Sarah Jo, from Boise, Idaho then asked again and Annabelle's eyes opened wide as she realized she was listening to her mother speak.
Sarah Jo said: 'Everything has been so overwhelming. 'To be able to tell Annabelle that I love her and know she hears me is very emotional. 'You could see how excited she was to be able to hear. I can't stop talking to her.
'Whenever I'm doing the dishes or putting a wash on I give her a running commentary. 'I want her to be able to catch up on the last three months.'
The video also shows the audiologist from Idaho Elks Hearing and Balance Center, Boise, continuing with tests to determine to what level Annabelle's hearing is working. When she heard clapping, she started to look a little perplexed and turned her head a full 90 degrees searching for the origins.
Annabelle's hearing aids are temporary as she will have cochlear implants put in when she is nine months old. Her current hearing aids enable her to hear sufficiently as the auditory nerve in her brain is functioning perfectly.
Sarah Jo added: 'At the moment she is really tired.
'I think hearing for the first time means her brain is working extra hard to understand what is happening. 'She is napping much longer than she did before to recuperate. 'But when she's awake she is so much more excited.'

Teacher Slaps Deaf Toddler For Wanting Food
Deaf News: Teacher slaps toddler caused Deaf for wanting food in bother’s school in India.
AGRA, India -- A hungry two-and-a-half-year-old boy was allegedly slapped so hard by a teacher for asking for food at his older siblings' school during a mid-day meal service that he has lost his hearing. Doctors have confirmed that the minor has suffered "at least partial loss of hearing" after the incident which took place in Mansukh Pura, Bah, on Wednesday.
The boy, Rajat Singh, had on Wednesday gone to the government school where his three older siblings Rohini Singh, Radha Singh and Rohit Singh study. During the mid-day meal he sought food from teacher Raghuvir Raghuvir, who then slapped the minor as he was "not a part of the school".
"My son has lost his hearing ability in one ear," said Rajat's father Shyamvir Singh, "Rajat is yet to enrol in primary school but he wanted to attend class with his brother and sisters. He was hungry and asked for food, when Raghuvir slapped him hard on the face. The slap caused Rajat's ear to bleed. Later we found out from doctors that he had partially lost his hearing ability."
Rubbishing Shyamvir's claims, the accused teacher, Raghuvir, told TOI: "Shyamvir is not telling the truth. The child was normal till the end of school. The matter was sensationalized after the child reached home."
He said, "I did slap Rajat for wandering around the school ground alone, where stray dogs could have attacked and hurt him. The blame for that would have fallen on me for being negligent."
A written complaint has been received in the matter from Shyamvir Singh and police said they will take the appropriate course of action after conducting a thorough investigation.

Deaf Couple Had Their Baby Officially Registered With A Sign Name
Deaf baby becomes first person in Britain to have her sign language name that means smiley face legally recorded on her birth certificate.
LONDON, United Kingdom -- A Deaf couple have become the first people in Britain to record their baby's name in sign language on her birth certificate.
Theatre director Paula Garfield, 47, and her partner Tomato Lichy, 39, from Wembley, north London, wanted to record Hazel's name in British Sign Language (BSL), but said they were initially told by their local Brent Register Office that it was impossible.
Now their personal name for four-year-old Hazel, a reference to her smiling face, has pride of place on her birth certificate - as UbOtDDstarL.
Hazel's sign name, like many others, is not simply the letters H-A-Z-E-L spelt out.
Instead it is a made-up combination of symbols which, when taken in context, describes her personality in a way only her parents and friends can fully understand.
Hazel's sign name is written as UbOtDDstarL, which represents a combination of hand movements.
The U represents the chin, bO means a 'baby O' made with the thumb and forefinger, tD means 'hands facing the signer', Dstar means 'the handshape opens' and L shows the shape of the hand.
Put that together and it makes a small O shape held at the chin, which then opens into an L shape.
Ms Garfield told MailOnline she had a battle of up to nine months with the Register Office. The issue was finally sorted around four years ago, but the case has had little publicity.
'My daughter's sign name is what it is because her first expression was a smile,' she said. 'There's no way to translate it perfectly into English.
'But we went to the register office and they said it was "ridiculous, you can't register a sign name, don't be silly". So we got in touch with a solicitor, who said the law allows people to have their name on a birth certificate "in their own language".'... Read The Full Story.
