Deaf Militant Back Behind Bars For ISIS Threats

ISIS supporter back behind bars after serving 18 months in federal prison.

FORT PIERCE, FL -- A known ISIS supporter was arrested Friday, not even a day after being released from prison, the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office said.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies and the FBI arrested 28-year-old Charlton Edward LaChase on Citrus Boulevard for making ISIS-related terrorist threats. Court records in 2018 show LaChase was convicted after sending text messages professing his support for ISIS and threatening to kill several people while committing acts of terrorism and mass murder, the sheriff's office said.

Charlton Edward LaChase said he wanted to "be the first Deaf person to create American Casualties in the name of Islamic State."

LaChase was released Friday morning on probation, but was arrested again after making more threats.

John Cannon has lived along Citrus Park Boulevard the past 35 years. The 64-year-old is married with four children and has a teacup Yorkie named Shelly.

Cannon’s family has a long history of military service, starting in World War II.

Upon hearing the news of the arrest a few houses away is scary.

“Anybody talking about blowing up at school killing people or whatever,” LaChase said. "There is just something wrong with this society for people to think that way.”

Authorities found LaChase at his home, where he lives with his mother due to his deafness and mental issues, and arrested him. He was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail, where deputies say he'll stay until he appears in federal court on Tuesday.

"The long-standing and strong partnership we have with the FBI, U.S. Attorney's Office and other federal partners helps us share important information, act quickly when these types of circumstances arise and ultimately keep our community safe," Sheriff Ken J. Mascara said.

Six-Year-Old Deaf Schoolboy On ISIS Hit List

A six-year-old schoolboy facing deportation has begged to stay in the United Kingdom because he is on the ISIS hit list for being Deaf.

LONDON, UK -- Lawand Hamadamin fled Iraq with his parents and brother last year after learning that the sick terrorist organisation had ordered the killing of disabled kids by lethal injection.

There were also rumours Al-Qaeda and Islamic State were recruiting young people with disabilities to become suicide bombers.

Mum Golbahar Hussein, 33, and dad Rebwar Golbahayh, 35, set off on a treacherous journey across Europe with Lawand, who was born profoundly Deaf and unable to communicate, and his nine-year-old brother Rawa.

In order to protect Lawand's cochlear implant during his perilous trip across the water, his parents put a plastic bag on his head.

They then spent a year living in a French refugee camp before they came to Britain and settled in Derby.

Lawand got a place at the Royal School for the Deaf in the city, where he has learned to communicate via British Sign Language.

His parents thanked the school for "saving their son's life" and he has continued to thrive with his teachers saying he is making "extraordinary progress."

But this week, his shocked parents were told the devastating news by the Home Office that they are now likely to be deported to Germany and warned they'll be given a week to leave on January 9.

Staff at the non-maintained residential special school say they are heartbroken at the prospect of Lawand leaving.

They are now working with solicitors supported by charity DeafKidz International in a bid to reverse the decision by the Home Office.

Head teacher Helen Shepherd said: "Lawand's family are understandably devastated that they are being deported, especially since he has made such extraordinary progress in the few months he has been with us.

"When Lawand arrived at the school in September, he had no means of communicating with anyone - even his own family.

"In the very short time he has been with us, Lawand has made exceptional progress.

"He is signing incredibly well and we have been so proud of him - he has made good friends, has grown in confidence and exceeded all our expectations.

"It is inconceivable that he should be removed from the school when he has only just begun.

"Lawand's cochlear implant processor has broken and so he has no functioning hearing aid yet.

"He has an appointment this week so that he can get a referral to the Nottingham Cochlear Implant Centre.

"There is little chance that he will get that appointment before the New Year, by which time he could have gone."

Deaflympics Begin In Samsun Despite Turkey's Failed Military Coup Attempt

WATCH: World Deaf Championships begin in Samsun despite Turkey's failed military coup attempt: ICSD President Valery Rukhledev says.

SAMSUN, TURKEY -- The 2016 World Deaf Championships are going ahead as planned at Samsun’s Batıpark despite the recent failed military coup in Turkey.

The week-long Championships, which are due to conclude on Sunday (July 24), are serving as preparation for the 2017 Deaflympics in the Turkish city.

They begun just three days after members of Turkish Armed Forces unsuccessfully attempted to seize control of several key places in cities such as Ankara and Istanbul.

It ended after forces loyal to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan maintained social order within 48 hours.

The Government says 312 people were killed in the coup, including 145 civilians, 60 police, three soldiers and 104 plotters.

International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) President Valery Rukhledev, who attended the Opening Ceremony of the World Deaf Championships, described the military coup as "deeply shocking".

"ICSD strongly condemns it as barbaric and cowardly act," he said.

"This is not only attack on the Government of Turkey, on humanity but on all humanitarian and Olympic values.

"ICSD stands united with the Turkish people and people from around the globe.

"Our thoughts and prayers with the families of those who have been killed and wounded.

"This is a heartbreaking situation."

Rukhledev was joined at the Opening Ceremony by Turkey's Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç, who led the "365 days countdown ceremony" for next year’s Deaflympics, scheduled to be held from July 18 to 30.

Kılıç started the countdown signboard at the Republic Square via live broadcast.

"We are happy to host you all," he said.

"I don’t doubt that Samsun will organise two excellent events.

"We will reunite next year for the 2017 Deaflympics."

The World Deaf Championships are made up of five sports including beach volleyball, judo, karate, table tennis and taekwondo.

As part of their visit, team delegations were given detailed information about sport complexes and ongoing operations for next year’s Deaflympics.

"Deaflympics 2017 in Samsun will be our common success," added Rukhledev.

CNN PARIS - On a night when thousands of Paris residents and tourists were reveling and fans were enjoying a soccer match between France and world champion Germany, horror struck in an unprecedented manner.

• Paris Prosecutor spokeswoman Agnès Thibault-Lecuivre said eight extremists are dead after attacks. Seven of them were killed in suicide bombings.

• U.S. President Barack Obama spoke with French President Francois Hollande to offer condolences and assistance in the investigation, the White House said. Earlier, Obama said, "This is an attack not just on Paris, not just on the people on France, but an attack on all humanity and the universal values we share." He called the attacks an "outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians."

• A total of six locations were attacked in and just outside the capital, Paris prosecutor François Molins told reporters Saturday.

“Paris has been hit again by terror tonight,” Deputy Mayor Patrick Klugman said on Twitter.

• Five suspected attackers have been "neutralized," said Molins. It was unclear whether that term meant the terrorists were dead.

• A witness tells Radio France that attackers inside the Bataclan concert hall entered firing rifles and shouting "Allah akbar."

• At least 153 people were killed in the Paris and Saint-Denis shootings and bombings, French officials said. Saint-Denis is home to the national stadium where the soccer match was being played.

• The worst carnage occurred at Bataclan, with at least 112 left dead. A journalist who was at a rock concert there escaped and told CNN: "We lied down on the floor not to get hurt. It was a huge panic.

The terrorists shot at us for 10 to 15 minutes. It was a bloodbath." Julien Pearce didn't hear the attackers speak, but he said one friend who escaped heard them talk about Iraq and Syria. Deaf West Virginia man was arrested in Lubbock, Texas for Statue of Liberty bombing hoax in New York City.

NEW YORK CITY -- A Deaf West Virginia man was arrested in Texas on Wednesday for calling in a fake bomb threat to blow up the Statue of Liberty which forced the evacuation of more than 3,200 people from Liberty Island back in April, authorities said.

Jason Paul Smith, 42, called 911 from his iPad on April 24 and said his name was “Abdul Yasin,” that he was an “ISI terrorist,” and threatened that “we” are preparing to “blow up” the Statue of Liberty, court papers state.

Abdul Yasin is the last remaining fugitive charged with the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, according to court papers.

Smith goes to a school for the Deaf and Blind, and allegedly made the 911 call using a service that lets hearing-impaired people make phone calls.

The iPad registered to Smith made other 911 calls, including two in May 2015 from somebody who identified himself as “Isis allah Bomb maker” and who threatened to attack Times Square and kill police officers at the Brooklyn Bridge, according to the Manhattan US Attorney.

Smith could face up to five years behind bars for making the hoax call. He’ll appear Wednesday afternoon in federal court in the Northern District of Texas.

ISIS Using Sign Language To Recruit Deaf Terrorists

ISIS militants are using sign language to show that even people with disabilities can wage jihad for the Islamic State, a report said.

In their latest recruitment video, titled “From Who Excused To Those Not Excused,” a pair of Deaf and mute fighters brandishing machine guns issued threats and urged Westerners to join their campaign of terror, NBC News reports.

The extremists claim to be working as traffic police in the Iraqi city of Mosul, which has become an ISIS stronghold in recent months. They are wearing black jumpsuits and military equipment fitted with handcuffs and ammunition as they speak about their desire to “slaughter” their enemies and radicalize others who will do the same.

Using both Arabic and English subtitles, the video begins with the statement: “We, the Deaf and mute, direct our message to the Islamic world.”

“To the Muslims in Europe, both Arab and non-Arab, the way is open before you for you to come to the land of the Kilafah,” one of the militants continues, using sign language.

“The Islamic State is expanding…and we say to America, Britain, Italy and France, who have frantically mobilized against the Muslims, and we say to the rulers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, who have allied with them…the Messenger said, ‘We have only come to you with slaughter,’ and we will surely come and slaughter you, by Allah’s permission.”

Alex Kassirer, a researcher at the global security firm Flashpoint Intelligence, says the video “represents an attempt by the group to recruit other physically or otherwise impaired individuals, as well as demonstrates the multifaceted responsibilities of those in its ranks,” according to NBC News.
