Sean Markel, the chairperson for the Deaf Grassroots Movement Rally on March 8th, 2018. We will be marching from Gallaudet University starting at 1030am all the way to here, at the United States Capitol, there will be a platform, with microphones and ASL interpreters. There will be chairs provided for the rally attendees as well.
As of today, Markel have put together a total of 14 presenters including 3 Senators, he will give information on their names, their positions, pictures for those who will be here to speak, and they will be speaking for up to 10 minutes each. You may ask, what's the rally for? We are Deaf and we are coming here to show the legislators that we exist, to raise awareness about the struggles we face on a daily basis in our lives, such as communication accessibility, education, and jobs, employment.
He have spoken with several legislators, the U.S. Capitol Police, and we have discussed the rally. Now, there are rules for the rally, you can bring signs, but you cannot have wood sticks for the signs, its illegal, be proud, be friendly, enjoy the occasion so we can show our Deaf spirit.
Just walk, stay calm, be courteous when you're here at U.S. Capitol, the legislators are willing to listen to your message, it's really important that we educate them, for years and years, the Deaf community has been complaining about a lot of things and it's time that we come and let them know.
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) has been working hard for years too, we need to show gratitude and thank them for their advocacy on our behalf. They have accomplished in some improvements, but for other issues, it continues to be a struggle and this is why we must all come together and rally.
The Senators and Representatives will listen, in the long term it will be good for us, to raise issues such as defending our rights, stop oppressive tactics, and remove misconceptions about Deaf people.
DGM and NAD are working together on legislative training on March 7th, NAD will be providing the training and Gallaudet University will give us a meeting room. He is working on getting State Associations and DGM State Representatives to come, up to 100 people, the training will be all day and then the next day on March 8th on Thursday, after the program at the rally, about 2 hours, the State Associations and DGM State Representatives will go see their Senators and Representatives in the U.S. Capitol.
Those who are interested to attend the legislative training, please let Wesley Arey know. For those who are in State Associations, please contact NAD President, Melissa Draganac-Hawk. In the long term, the Senators and Representatives will appreciate our initiative to raise awareness about our issues, especially in Communication Accessibility, Education, and Employment. Please save the date, come to support the root cause of the Rally, US, the Deaf Americans! See you all there on March 8, 2018.
We're still facing inequality access of opportunities as hearing people does. We will not fight as individuals. We will fight as a team to make a change.
Deaf Grassroots Movement Rally! Be there on March 8th, 2018.

Deaf White House Receptionist Gives Tour
WATCH [CC] - The White House released video of first Deaf White House receptionist giving a tour of the residence.
WASHINGTON -- In celebration of the 26th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the White House released a video of the first Deaf White House receptionist giving a tour of the residence.
Leah Katz-Hernandez first interned at the White House in 2010 and President Obama talked about her at the 25th anniversary last year of the ADA, a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination in employment, housing, service, transportation and more against people who have disabilities.
“We call her ROTUS,” the president explained. “I’m POTUS, this is VPOTUS and that’s ROTUS. And ROTUS is the first Deaf American to hold that job. She is poised, she is talented -- and, as she puts it, a lot of her accomplishments may not have been possible without the ADA."

Gallaudet: White House Experience 'Unforgettable'
WATCH: Deaf News - Deaf Canadian of Gallaudet University student experience at the White House 'unforgettable'.
WASHINGTON DC -- The Whig: A Deaf Kingston man studying in Washington, D.C., signed “I love you” to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and wife Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau during their visit to The White House Thursday morning.
Wyatt Scott, who is in his fourth year at Gallaudet University in Washington, was invited to see the prime minister’s arrival, along with several other Canadian students from the school that specializes in educating Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
“The experience at the White House was great!” Scott wrote in an email.
He said there were more than 3,000 people there to see the Trudeaus, including the 17 Deaf Canadian students from Gallaudet who were given VIP seats right next to the stage from which the two leaders addressed the crowd.
Scott got to see President Barack Obama and the first lady walk out of the White House to wait for the Trudeaus’ motorcade to arrive. Seeing the Trudeaus together with the Obamas was an exciting moment, he added.
“It was very cool to see them right there in front of us. We cheered, signed ‘I love you,’ waved the Canadian flags, and hoped to catch their attention. I think they did notice us. I’ve never dreamed to be that very close to the two most important leaders in the same location.”
Scott watched the military guard perform a salute to the two leaders and, with the help of an interpreter, laughed at Obama’s jokes about hockey.
“We took a lot of pictures everywhere to remember the unforgettable event. After the speeches, we did hope for both leaders to walk by us, shake hands, and take selfies with them, but that didn’t happen. I’m fine with it because I’m more than satisfied to see them up close instead of watching on the TV.”
After the Trudeaus’ departure, Scott and his friends left for lunch and a chance to discuss what they had seen.
“It was definitely a once-in-a-life opportunity, and that will probably not happen again in my lifetime. The overall experience at the White House was fantastic and unforgettable because that was my first and (likely) last time to visit the White House before graduating this May.”

Deaf Protest at White House in Washington DC
Deaf Protest will be held at the White House in Washington the District of Columbia on Sept. 5th and 6th 2015.
WASHINGTON -- President Obama engages with youth with disabilities at the White House last a few years ago that failed the community opportunities. Deaf Protest will be held on Sept 5th, 6th, 2015 at the White House. It's all about unemployment for the Deaf and language barriers in the United States.
This is an explanation on the base of erroneous information on the percentage of Deaf unemployment. Reading and understanding statistics are complicated. It's imperative to be critic of any research or papers with numbers: 2014 Disability Statistics Annual Report.
Gallaudet Report - There are some statistics investigating the employment rate of working-age individuals with hearing loss in the United States. The statistics for 2013 are made available in the Disability Statistics Compendium, specifically Table 2.3. The data within Table 2.3 is based on data from the 2012 American Community Survey from the Census Bureau.
Deaf community are left out by the government and Deaf unemployment is very high. The percent of unemployment (80%) seems closer to accurate for anyone who born Deaf but it should be lower as 70%.
Deaf unemployment is very complicated - they don't count anyone who born Deaf or HoH that goes through the Deaf Education, but late deafened with full oral language have better chance to getting hired, especially if they have very good benefit with cochlear implants or hearing aids and don't use VR service.
Deaf protest to rally the front of White House and the President Barack Obama will heard us the DEAF people that stand and shout "WE WANT JOBS!"
Please mark on your calendar to remind the date - Sept. 5th and 6th 2015, and it will be at the White House in Washington DC. No time to waiting delaying waste of time long years, Deaf and HoH people has been ignored and skyrocketing to 75 % Unemployment. It's Very important share to people want to know about the protest.
