Donald Trump's Refugee Ban, Explained

Vox explains why Donald Trump's refugee ban in the US.

WASHINGTON, DC -- On Friday, President Donald J. Trump overhauled US refugee policy - laying the groundwork for a fundamental shift in how the US allows people to enter the country.

Trump signed an executive order Friday afternoon that bans all immigrants and visa holders from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the US for 90 days, and opens the door to more country-based bans in future.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

It also bans all refugee admissions for 120 days - and bans Syrian refugees indefinitely. It slashes the US’s refugee quota for 2017 to less than half of the level set by President Obama, directs the US to prioritize “religious minorities” for the remaining slots, and bars all refugees from countries that aren’t specifically approved by the US government.

And it tasks the federal government with coming up with a new process to screen everyone hoping to immigrate to the US, one that requires each individual immigrant to prove she or he would be a “positively contributing member of society.

Legal challenges to the order have already begun, and the Trump Administration and Department of Homeland Security have already begun scaling back the order's gigantic scope to allow Green Card holders from the 7 countries into the US.

WASHINGTON -- In celebration of the 26th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the White House released a video of the first Deaf White House receptionist giving a tour of the residence.

Leah Katz-Hernandez first interned at the White House in 2010 and President Obama talked about her at the 25th anniversary last year of the ADA, a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination in employment, housing, service, transportation and more against people who have disabilities.

“We call her ROTUS,” the president explained. “I’m POTUS, this is VPOTUS and that’s ROTUS. And ROTUS is the first Deaf American to hold that job. She is poised, she is talented -- and, as she puts it, a lot of her accomplishments may not have been possible without the ADA."

Federal Bans Housing For Deaf Seniors

The U.S. Federal government builds housing bans for Deaf seniors.

TEMPE, Arizona -- The United States government has three important functions. Collecting taxpayer money, building housing for Deaf seniors and making housing for Deaf seniors illegal.

his is a true story of how the government fulfilled two of its main functions at the same time by building and banning housing for Deaf seniors.

Arizona is defying a federal order to eliminate apartments for Deaf seniors at a housing complex built specifically for the Deaf.

A 2005 federal study found that the U.S. had virtually no affordable housing for the Deaf. So the federal government helped build Apache ASL Trails, a 75-unit apartment building in Tempe, Arizona., designed specifically for the Deaf. Ninety-percent of the units are currently occupied by Deaf and Deaf-Blind seniors.

But now, the federal The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says Apache ASL Trails violates civil rights law because it shows a preference for the hearing-impaired.

HUD is threatening to pull all federal housing aid to Arizona unless it limits the number of hearing-impaired residents to 18 people.

However, when HUD approved and helped fund the project in 2008, it did so knowing that the property was specifically “designed for seniors who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind.”... Read The Fully Story.
