Deaf Holocaust Survivors - Remembrance Day

German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz in Oswiecim, Poland. Jan. 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Deaf survivors of the Holocaust gathered around the globe on Tuesday on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau to remember the mothers, fathers, siblings and others lost to genocide - the pain of memory of the squalid ghettos, the inhuman Nazi death camps, of starvation and terror.

This documentary covers the treatment of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in Nazi Germany during World War Two. 17,000 Deaf people were forcibly sterilised by the Nazis to stop them from having children and many others were killed simply because they were Deaf - in a bid to improve the German gene pool.

As part of the season of programmes commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Holocaust and the liberation of Auschwitz, Clive Mason visits the killing centre of Hadamar to investigate the development and impact of the Nazi policy of enforced sterilisation and the murder of Deaf and Disabled people, which took place in Germany between 1933 and 1945. Members of the German Deaf community, who are still living with the legacy of this brutal Nazi policy, tell their moving stories for the first time on television.

How German Sounds Compared To Other Languages

Experience how awfully harsh German sounds in comparison to other more beautiful languages!

The humorous video goes viral on YouTube. Ever notice how Germans sounds so severe? The German language is very intense, full of harsh vowels and long, hard-sounding words. This reputation is used to hilariously good effect in the videos below, which translate the same word into multiple languages, ending with German. P.S. All 'actors' are native speakers. Check it out new video "How To Speak German Lessons". To see just how different, watch and learn from the humorously-educational.

An example of this is the education in which the foundation for the further development opportunities and hard of hearing children is fixed. For the school, it is very important for children and young people that they are taught by teachers who are their sign language skills at a sufficiently high level. This can only ensure the fewest educational institutions so far unfortunately. Fact: Deaf children and young people are still not self-evident taught sign language.

Even in the areas of communication and information access in which people with hearing impairments still bump into barriers, must the quality of sign language interpreters, the selection of personnel in institutions and agencies that are working for hearing-impaired people, saved and checked in the best case by native speakers are. Only in this way can be guaranteed that the barriers are broken down and Deaf people can live in an inclusive society, Read More.
