BERLIN, Germany -- Deaf Hip-Hop World Champion Dances Beethoven’s 5th Symphony: Kassandra Wedel lost her hearing when she was three. Kassandra never stopped dancing. Ludwig Van Beethoven and Hip-Hop Dance Champion Kassandra Wedel have one thing in common. Beethoven was Deaf when he wrote many of his masterpieces, including most of his symphonies.

Kassandra Wedel lost her hearing when she was three years old. This new music video on the first movement of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony in Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker iconic recording of 1977 celebrates the fight against the barriers of deafness and opens up the opportunity to experience Beethoven’s music in all its sonic and new visual facets.

Premiered in time for WHO’s World Hearing Day 2020 on March 3 and celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, the video highlights the composer’s relevance of his life’s message for society today.

Deaf Drag Queen On Belgium's Got Talent

Lola McQueen is the first Deaf drag queen in the world with a Golden buzzer on Belgium's Got Talent 2019.

BRUSSELS -- Deaf drag queen Lola McQueen 31, audition for Belgium’s Got Talent. Lola McQueen slays lip sync leaves audiences and judges speechless.

Lola McQueen blew the judges of Belgium's Got Talent away when he performed ‘A Million Dreams’ by P!nk. He received a golden buzzer after one of the judges was moved to tears by his performance.

Lola McQueen was born Deaf, but that did not hold his back from chasing his dreams. “Being Deaf is an enrichment for me, I would not have it any other way. It maybe sounds weird, but I can say this having been through a lot in my life. I have been bullied and people always told me I couldn’t perform. I have been able to fulfil all my dreams, because I believe people shouldn’t decide what I can do. I am the one who decides that,” McQueen told the judges.

This is the second act performed by Lola McQueen on Belgium's Got Talent.

He got an Golden buzzer from the viewers at home and from judge Stan Van Samang. Thank you everyone for support and believe in Lola McQueen for his successfully on Belgium's Got Talent.

Although being Deaf, McQueen is able to lip sync by feeling the vibrations of the music. His performance left the judges speechless. “This was amazing. I think it was incredible,” judge Stan Van Samang told McQueen.

BURBANK, California -- A Deaf activist and founder of advocacy group DEAFinitely Dope, Matt Maxey, explains how sign language interpreters are necessary for live music events and what it's like experiencing music as a Deaf person.

Matthew Maxey hails from Decatur, Georgia and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Born with a severely profound hearing loss, and outfitted with hearing aids at 2 years old, it became apparent at an early age that life would be anything but ordinary.

Fast forward and Matthew attended the prestigious Gallaudet University in Washington, DC where he began to learn American Sign Language in an attempt to balance the struggle of developing his identity as a double minority in terms of ability and race.

In 2014, DEAFinitely Dope was founded as an idea based on providing support to those that felt marginalized and ignored by mainstream America.

DEAFinitely Dope started as a brand, and slowly blossomed into a movement, attracting the likes of educational institutions nationwide, CNN, ESPN The Undefeated, GQ, Cole Haan, ABC news, Chance The Rapper, MTV Video Music Awards, and countless more.

With both hearing and Deaf partnerships in play, Matt strives to continue to break barriers and defy the norms with a fresh perspective on interaction, inclusion, accessibility and equality, as awareness continues to grow.

Though he now identifies as Deaf, the Portland-based artist and musician never lost his love of music. Combining his interest in sound, visual arts and technology, de Bastion created a system to share music with both Deaf and hearing audiences alike. In the process, he formed an entirely new method of communication and self-expression that hearing and non-hearing communities can appreciate together.

Introducing Coke Studio For The Deaf

'Coke Studio for the Deaf' brings music to the 9 million hearing impaired people in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Coke Studio, which has previously brought music from far-flung areas into the recording studio, has now come up with a beautiful initiative in Pakistan, that will enable the hearing-impaired to enjoy music.

Coke Studio for the Deaf, as the new initiative is called, has innovated with light and vibrations to make the experience accessible to those who cannot hear.

9 million people in Pakistan have some sort of hearing impairment. They can experience the rhythm of music through touch and sight, and we believe music is a feeling everyone should experience.

Speaking about the initiative, Ibrahim Khan, Coca-Cola brand manager, says, “Coke Studio reaches millions around the world, but not the nine million people hearing-impaired people in Pakistan. We wanted to bring a small change in that regard.”

The programme has been established in partnership with Deaf Reach Foundation.

A report in The The New Indian Express quotes Deaf Reach founder Richard Geary as saying, “Working together with Coke Studio has been a really amazing experience. Not just because we got to see the experience the young people enjoyed, but to create awareness in the country and internationally about the need to provide more opportunities for the Deaf community”

He taught himself to dance by feeling the vibrations of the music. Vibrations from noise in the outside world confuse his perception of the music. This is his process to show that Deaf people can do anything, because anything is possible.

Who is Shaheem? Following in his father’s footsteps, Shaheem Sanchez, aka DeafDancerShaheem, started dancing at age 11, despite losing his hearing at age four. Though his father passed before he was born, his family told him stories about his father’s dance skills and he thought, why not give dance a shot? Dance has become a very important part of his life.

He loves to feel the music, go with the flow, and feel the peace that comes from dance. By feeling the beat and reading the body language of his collaborators, Shaheem is able to connect to the music and express himself. It is important to him to show that Deaf people can do anything, because anything is possible. Fun Fact: Shaheem passed down his love of dance to his little brother Kida The Great.

Schools and Teachers told her she would never dance because she couldn’t hear the music but…she can feel the music. We can use her as an example for when people tell us we can't do something…you can prove them wrong, if you work at it!

In the 1970s, SK2 scientists began a fervent quest to uncover a skincare ingredient that would make beautiful skin a reality for every woman.

Across land and sea, they sought for the answer. Despite researching a myriad of possibilities, the secret they were looking for long eluded them.

It was only by happenstance that the scientists eventually found themselves in a simple sake brewery where they chanced upon the soft and youthful hands of aged sake brewers. 7UP and Martin Garrix worked with experiential artists to create a special, once-in-a-lifetime a music venue for an all Deaf audience. Music moves us all. Deaf people just experience it differently.

Martin Garrix recently teamed up with 7UP to present an event unlike any other. In cooperation with Fake Love, Martin Garrix and 7UP created a concert for the Deaf that utilized a variety of tactile experiments and features to give participants the experience of feeling their music. Attendees were treated to walls covered in speaker cones that they could feel and interact with, as well as padded flooring that vibrated throughout the body. Visuals were paired to water experiments that the music itself brought to life, creating a completely seamless and encompassing audio/visual experience. Some attendees were also fitted with Subpac-like backpack systems that conveyed bass throughout the body.

Many who attended had been Deaf since birth, and this was the first kind of experience built around their needs to such an extent. The truly emotional video is available to watch now – just a warning, have some tissues ready.

Korean CODA Sings For Parents Goes Viral

This is such a heartbreaking and emotional story, a son of Deaf parents with cancer sings emotional song on the Korean Talent Show.

SEOUL, South Korea -- Superstar K: 슈퍼스타 is a South Korean television talent show series. When asked by the judges of Superstar K6 for his reason behind auditioning, contestant Kim Jung Hoon is a Child of Deaf Adults, often known by the acronym "CODA", is a person who was raised by Deaf parents, Kim could hardly hold back tears as he revealed a heartbreaking story about his family.

“Both of my parents are Deaf,” Kim said in his pre-audition interview. He added that both of his parents lost their hearing during early childhood and currently have cancer: his mother suffering from thyroid cancer and his father from colorectal cancer.

“It felt like the world was falling apart,” he said. Despite their disabilities, Kim’s Deaf parents came to the audition to show full support for their son.

“When we see our son, even though we can’t hear him sing, we believe that he can succeed,” Kim’s father said through sign language. His wife agreed, saying that they believe in their son whether he sings well or poorly.

Once Kim took the stage, he proved that he could sing not only beautifully but also with powerful emotion. His rendition of Lee Sun-hee’s “Fate” moved some of the judges to tears.
