Deaf Baby Girl Hears Mom's Voice For First Time

Adorable moment Deaf baby girl cries with joy after hearing her mother's voice for the first time goes viral on social media.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va -- WAVY: Charly was born profoundly Deaf and this is her response to hearing aids. "My baby hears me for the first time and is almost moved to tears!" Charly's her mother Christy Keane said.

It’s a viral video that’s melting hearts around the world -- a Deaf baby from Virginia Beach hearing her Mom’s voice for the first time.

Christy Keane never imagined the reaction that would come from sharing a special family moment on her Instagram page.

She posted it last Thursday, the day two month old Charly got hearing aids. It has now been viewed more than 12 million times.

“That connection in our eyes at that moment I can’t even put into words because its unexplainable” Mom, Christy Keane told WAVY.com. “I know she was feeling what I was feeling in my heart at the same time.”

The Keane home has been full of emotions since Charly was born in August. They had no hint of a hearing loss during Christy’s pregnancy.

“The reason we found out is because Virginia has a great early screening program where, at 24 hours of life, they do a hearing screen on the babies and, she failed.”

Christy had never met a Deaf person until her daughter. Now she’s exploring sign language and googling cochlear implants.

Cochlear implants are different than hearing aids, which amplify sound. Cochlear implants do the work of the damaged inner ear.

Charly will get them closer to her first birthday. That’s the FDA approved age.

For now, the hearing aids are helping her prepare body prepare for the implant.

Charly’s doctor’s with Eastern Virginia Medical School and Children’s Hospital Of The King’s Daughters got the hearing aids for free through the Virginia hearing aid loan bank.

Christy says every morning when she puts them in it is a miracle. The smiles she gets from Charly are just like the first time.

Deaf Mum Hears Son's Voice For The First Time

Deaf mum hearing her family speak for the first time goes viral on social media, will bring you tears of joy.

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom -- The Channel 4 documentary has single handedly restored our faith in humanity, after the TV show introduced us to single mum Rebecca, her sister Amy and her three-year-old son.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

9 years ago Rebecca had an unexplained loos of hearing in her right ear. Then, as if that wasn't enough, 16 weeks ago she tragically went deaf in her left ear too.

"I've had to learn new ways of trying to communicate with him" explains a defiant Rebecca, as she bravely battles her condition, to give her son the best possible life.

However, with the help of audiologist Hugh Cooper, everything is about to change for the better.

When the mother of one visited Manchester Royal Infirmary with her sister Amy as part of Breaking the Silence Live, we see her hear again for the first time since she lost her hearing, thanks to the help of a cochlear implant.

The show has clearly struck a cord with viewers who have taken to Twitter to discuss the importance of communicating with Deaf people so that they don't feel alienated.

People take being able to hear for granted, have the upmost respect for my deaf family and all they've achieved #breakingthesilence.

Deaf Baby Hears Mother's Voice For First Time

WATCH: Deaf Idaho baby hears her mother's voice for the first time.

BOISE, ID -- This is the heart-warming moment a Deaf baby heard her mother's voice for the very first time.

Born profoundly Deaf, Annabelle Lawrence received two hearing aids on Wednesday and when they were turned on she couldn't hide her excitement.

When her mother Sarah Jo asked her if she could hear, the three-month-old broke into a massive gummy smile

Sarah Jo, from Boise, Idaho then asked again and Annabelle's eyes opened wide as she realized she was listening to her mother speak.

Sarah Jo said: 'Everything has been so overwhelming. 'To be able to tell Annabelle that I love her and know she hears me is very emotional. 'You could see how excited she was to be able to hear. I can't stop talking to her.

'Whenever I'm doing the dishes or putting a wash on I give her a running commentary. 'I want her to be able to catch up on the last three months.'

The video also shows the audiologist from Idaho Elks Hearing and Balance Center, Boise, continuing with tests to determine to what level Annabelle's hearing is working. When she heard clapping, she started to look a little perplexed and turned her head a full 90 degrees searching for the origins.

Annabelle's hearing aids are temporary as she will have cochlear implants put in when she is nine months old. Her current hearing aids enable her to hear sufficiently as the auditory nerve in her brain is functioning perfectly.

Sarah Jo added: 'At the moment she is really tired.

'I think hearing for the first time means her brain is working extra hard to understand what is happening. 'She is napping much longer than she did before to recuperate. 'But when she's awake she is so much more excited.'

Australia Model Has 'Healed' A Child's Deafness

Miss Universe Australia claims she has 'healed' a Deaf African child by putting her fingers in the girl's ear and praying twice in an Easter miracle.

KAMPALA, UG -- A model has claimed she cured a Deaf African child by praying twice and putting her fingers in the girl's ear in an Easter 'miracle'.

Rebecca Ronald, who has featured in campaigns for Lorna Jane and Billabong, was working with young children in Uganda when she 'healed' the girl using the 'power of faith'.

The Miss Universe Australia finalist took to Instagram to share the story and claimed that after she uttered the words 'you are about to hear for the first time', the young girl was instantly cured.

The model, who is from Palm Beach, on the Gold Coast, posted a picture of her and a group of African children - one of whom she singled out as the girl she healed.

'As Riley & I were preaching, she stood out to me & I had such a compassion for her,' she wrote.

'Afterwards while we were praying for each individual, I asked her to come aside & as I went to speak, her friend intervened to say that she was Deaf.

'I had just finished preaching on what God had been teaching me about; the power of Faith.. and knowing my God can do all things, I said to her, 'you are about to hear for the first time'.

'I prayed once - nothing happened, then I felt Holy Spirit say, put your fingers in her ear and command them to open.

'Sounds easy, but in the moment, it can be the hardest thing because is requires the very thing I taught on, Faith with power which opposes human reasoning - so I did and when I finished praying, her face lit up and overjoyed she said 'I can HEAR for the first time!!!!''

She said that this was an example of the 'Heavenly Father's' love in action.

'The Lord told me to expect miracles this trip & miracles is what we are seeing,' she said.

'While westerners think they are the blessed ones not living in poverty, I disagree because these easterners get it, and I believe that is why I have never witnessed the power of God like I have here.'

Deaf People Hears For The First Time Compilation

Deaf babies and Deaf people hears sound for the first time compilation all in one place.

The Internet is peppered with countless emotional and powerful videos of someone who does, then few past weeks ago, you probably watched the wildly popular the videos of "Hears For The First Time" in these days, Deaf and Hard of Hearing people who, after receiving hearing implantations, was able to hear.

Cochlear/Hearing Implantations may help provide hearing in patients who are Deaf because of damage to sensory hair cells in their cochleas. In those patients, the implants often can enable sufficient hearing for better understanding of speech. The quality of sound is different from natural hearing, with less sound information being received and processed by the brain.

Not only are we touched by this, but we are inspired beyond measure by the life-changing advances in technology. Enjoy to watch the compilation of reactions at the precise moment a lab technician turns on the implant devices.

Brainstem Implants Help Deaf Children Hear

Deaf children who can't use the older technology of cochlear implants might be helped with a brainstem implant.

LOS ANGELES, California -- At age 3, Angelica Lopez is helping to break a sound barrier for Deaf children.

Born without working auditory nerves, she can detect sounds for the first time and start to mimic them after undergoing brain surgery to implant a device that bypasses missing wiring in her inner ears.

Angelica is one of a small number of U.S. children who are testing what's called an auditory brainstem implant, or ABI. The device goes beyond cochlear implants that have brought hearing to many Deaf children but that don't work for tots who lack their hearing nerve.

When the ABI is first turned on, "she isn't going to be hearing like a 3-year-old. She'll be hearing like a newborn," audiologist Laurie Eisenberg of the University of Southern California tells parents. She outlined the research Friday at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The children don't magically understand and use those sounds. "It's going to take a lot of work," Eisenberg cautioned.

Angelica cried when her ABI first was switched on, scared by the sounds. But five months later, her mother says the youngster uses sign language to identify some sounds that was a cough, that's a dog barking. And she's beginning to babble like hearing babies do, as therapists work to teach her oral speech.

"It's just so awesome to hear her little voice," said Julie Lopez of Big Spring, Texas, who enrolled her daughter in the study at USC, where researchers say she's progressing well.

Many children born Deaf benefit from cochlear implants, electrodes that send impulses to the auditory nerve, where they're relayed to the brain and recognized as sound. But the small fraction born without a working hearing nerve can't make that brain connection.

The ABI attempts to fill that gap by delivering electrical stimulation directly to the neurons on the brainstem the nerve normally would have targeted. Here's how it works: The person wears a microphone on the ear to detect sound, and a processer changes it to electrical signals. Those are beamed to a stimulator under the skin, which sends the signals snaking through a wire to electrodes surgically placed on the brainstem... Read The Full Story.

Deaf Teenage Girl Now Hears With Her Brain

Special technology, 14-year-old Maggie Gleason can now hear. But the really remarkable thing is that she's hearing with her brain, not her ears.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Maggie Gleason, 14, who was born Deaf, heard sound for the first time in her life when hearing specialists at University Hospitals (UH) Case Medical Center turned on an innovative electronic device called an auditory brainstem implant (ABI). The implantable device provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly Deaf.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

Maggie was born without cochleas, the small snail-shaped bones in her inner ears which house the auditory (hearing) nerve. As a result of her condition, she had no auditory nerve. Maggie had to wait for a technology like ABI to advance to a stage where it could help her. ABI bypasses the ear and stimulates the brain stem.

According to one of her surgeons, Maroun Semaan, MD, of UH Case Medical Center, Maggie may be the first teen with this device for absent cochleas.

"For someone who has never heard, the perception and awareness of sound is extremely helpful," said Dr. Semaan, Director, Otology, Neurotology, and Balance Disorders at UH Case Medical Center and Associate Professor, Otolaryngology, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

ABI is a prosthetic hearing device that stimulates neurons directly at the human brainstem, bypassing the inner ear and hearing nerve entirely, which in Maggie's case, did not even exist. The device consists of a tiny radio receiver implanted underneath the skin and tiny platinum electrodes implanted into the brain stem...

An ideal candidate for a cochlear implant, his parents didn’t delay in taking action to increase his chances of being able to communicate with them. His giggle upon hearing his mother’s voice for the first time.

The moment when a young boy with severe hearing difficulties heard his mother's voice for the very first time has been captured in a heartwarming video clip, which shows the youngster dissolving into a fit of giggles every time she speaks.

Entrepreneur Jennifer Colson Aprea, from Huntington Beach, California, posted the clip of her two-year-old son Ryan on her company's Facebook page on Monday, revealing that her son had successfully been fitted with a cochlear implant which is enabling him to hear sounds for the first time in his life.

Deaf Woman Hears Son's Voice For First Time

The incredible footage, shows the profoundly Deaf mom, Amy tries out her new cochlear implant an electronic device surgically implanted in the ear to provide a sense of sound.

A 26-year-old mother, who was born Deaf, was able to hear her son’s voice for the first time with a cochlear implant. Amy was sitting in her doctor’s office with her family as she tried out the implant, an electronic device surgically implanted in the ear.

She started crying instantly after hearing her six-year-old son Blake speak to her for the first time. “Hi mom,” Blake said, as the room erupted with laughter. Amy nodded to indicate she heard what he said. “I feel weird,” she said. “It feels so different.”

Though she was completely Deaf, she still received her high school diploma and college degree. She escaped from her silent life with the implant, something she had always dreamed of doing but never thought was possible.

“This is just a start to the road ahead to learn what sound is and where it comes from. It was the most amazing day ever to be a witness to this medical miracle and a true gift from God,” Amy’s aunt Catherine Arnold said.

Though the sound provided by the implant isn’t the same as natural hearing, it allows patients to hear and understand speech and environmental sounds like music... Read The Full Story.

Sarah Churman Book Excerpt: Deaf Woman Describes Hearing For First Time

Sarah Churman's 'Powered On' details her life's journey and offers unique insights from the perspective of a woman who has experienced both sides of a disability.

LOS ANGELES -- Sarah Churman, 29, was born with a tiny fraction of her hearing. Last year she had surgery to implant a new device, The Esteem, into each ear. Her mother-in-law cashed in her retirement to part of the $60,000 bill.

Before Sarah and her husband, Sloan, left for the hospital to have the surgery, Churman's mother-in-law made one request of her son: film Churman's reaction to hearing for the first time. The 90-second clip has gone viral, having been viewed more than 14 million times.

Churman tells her story in a memoir titled "Powered On," which will be released soon by Indigo River Publishing. Here is an excerpt... Read The Full Story.

HEARS For The First Time Is FAKE

"Hears" for the first time video is fake, Report.

If you have access to the internet, or live within shouting distance of someone who does, then few past weeks ago, you probably watched the wildly popular the videos of "Hears For The First Time" in these days, Deaf people who, after receiving cochlear/hearing implantations, was able to hear for the first time.

Some people humbly suggest that the debate over real or fake is completely meaningless anyway, since the purpose is just to get people talking about the company or the product in fact, the people who are crying "fake," while trying to damage the video's reputation, are actually only helping the brand succeed in generating buzz. It's a textbook example of the "the "Streisand Effect."

"Entertainment and sharing are the only goals with online video ads" Viewers get so caught up in the debate over real or fake, but you know who doesn't? The brand. Do you think the brand cares whether you came to the video with a bias thinking it was fake? Because they don't. What they care about is that you A) watched it, and B) forwarded it to someone. You could have forwarded it because you believed it was a real. Or you could have sent it to friends because you're convinced it's an obvious fake and you want their support. Either way... the video is shared like crazy.

It's also incredibly difficult to "prove" these things one way or another, which will allow the conspiracy theory to live on almost indefinitely. So if they're smart, The community isn't getting caught up in trying to prove their video is real, but are merely basking in the glow of the tech journalism's spotlight. Meanwhile, international media news are the propaganda of HUGE lies!!!, but the audience will no longer believe it's real.

One frequently cited piece of evidence supporting the hoax claim is that they speaks pretty clearly which, according to "hear" now, but they're still not "Hearing"! with captioned, It is impossible for someone who is actually Deaf. This evaluation is usually backed up with an explanation like, "My nephew went to summer camp with a guy who said his neighbor's aunt was completely Deaf, and she couldn't talk that well, so this must be a fake."

However, the first sentence of that article proves the point. They were not DEAF. They had severe "Hearing Loss." It is amazing what they did but it should not be title "DEAF" they "HEARS" for the first time. They has been heard themselves before, just not clearly. Thier voice sounded too "Hearing-Like" and could be heard clearly raising questions if her hearing loss is really severe, maybe there's a line drawn between using the term 'Deaf', because there are 'Legally Blind' people that can still see. Maybe there is 'Legally Deaf'.

These people clearly do not understand that proper speech requires hearing in order for the speaker to properly modulate their voice. For the same reason that people listening to loud music on headphones may either shout or speak too quietly, Deaf people typically have a difficult time vocalizing normally. One of the reasons that they are able to vocalize in the manner that they do is because their brain is using the vibration caused by their vocal chords to help modulate. Spoken word recognition in toddlers who use cochlear implants: https://jslhr.asha.org/cgi/content/abstract.

Again, Entertainment and sharing are the only goals with online video ads have been quite a few detractors on the internet stating that seems to indicate these videos may be a fake/hoax..., because they are able to speak almost immediately after it is turned on. The video takes place in a doctor's office and shows the adult/children's reaction at the precise moment a lab technician turns on the implant device. Some people viewed the video at least a half-dozen times, and they can unequivocally state that it is the most inspiring the video you will ever see that consists almost entirely of thier crying or exciting (Presumably, they are crying because of the emotion of the moment, and not because the technician decided that thier first audible sound should be a recording, perhaps. The stories run by the media is grossly distorted or simply fake (to sell the product?) it is possbile to convince people to buy the product by the cochlear implant companies from the media network.

The media network is interesting the video which on purpose is only for the money as the dirty business? as seen on Cochlear Business is Dirty Business with captions. The video is only for the money as the dirty business that what the media seeking partnership agreement contract to share profit from the cochlear implant companies? The whole thing was acted out in order to help promote the implantable hearing aid.
