Nyle DiMarco is a model, an actor and also an activist. In 2014 he became the second male winner and the first Deaf contestant to win American's Next Top Model. Only two years later he added the Mirror Ball Trophy to his collection after winning Dancing With the Stars,. As a model, he has walked the runway for Giorgio Armani at Milan Fashion Week. Yet, his greatest acchievement was to become the face of the Deaf community and disabled people worldwide.

Ten Deaf Children, One Powerful Message

Sheena McFeely also known as ASL Nook channel share a powerful message on YouTube -- Every day, Deaf people "fail" the hearing test immediately after being born, face "language delays" with their hearing family that don’t learn their natural language, and attempt "perfect speech" in order to fit into the Hearing world. They fight to use interpreters that benefit both the hearing and the Deaf, and deal with job discrimination -- all simply because they cannot hear.

Ironically, the practice of teaching signs to hearing babies is booming due to practical, emotional, and cognitive benefits validated by research. Hundreds of thousands of hearing people are taking American Sign Language (ASL) classes in high school as well as college -- making ASL the third most-studied language, according to Modern Language Association. Many come out of the experience proclaiming how beautiful ASL is.

Even while ASL is beautified, Deafness is still perceived as something that needs to be fixed. This makes Deaf people seem unequal, abnormal, and even defective. Deaf people are perplexed by this, as they see themselves as equal, diverse, and an attribute to this world.

"TODAY WE ASK, WHEN CAN YOU SEE US THE SAME WAY DEAF SEE THEMSELVES?"

It is our hope that this message will raise awareness, and at the same time, encourage Americans to join the Deaf community in the ongoing fight for equality.

Priest Admitted Deaf Child Abuse In Confession

"We abused Deaf children, we were at least ten", the confession of Provolo's priest.

MENDOZA, Argentina -- Fanpage shares short documentary film with english subtitles - Pedophilic priests of Provolo Institute in Verona were protected, hidden or transferred to Argentina for many years. ‘Provolo’ is a worldwide known religious institute that used to host Deaf children from poor and disadvantaged families.

The victims' complaints were useless and this because the crimes were mostly covered by the statute of limitation until one of these priests, Don Nicola Corradi, was arrested in Argentina for alleged sexual abuse at the Provolo Institute of Mendoza, Buenos Aires, in November 2016.

In 2010 numerous priests were investigated for abuses by a Vatican commission, but the depositions were sealed and since then we have not heard anything.

Now one of these investigated priests, Don Piccoli, who lives as a guest in a Vatican accomodation in Negrar, near Verona, tells us for the first time what he and dozens of other priests did to the Deaf children and how some of these priests were moved to Argentina after being accused of pedophilia. Moreover, by listenning to the story of one of the abuse victims, Giuseppe Consiglio, we've come to know of another accused pedophilic priest. He still works at the Provolo in Verona.

The nuns of the nearby Institute Gresner take his side, but some details don’t add up. Did the Vatican know about these pedophilic priests? Could Don Nicola Corradi be stopped? Can the other accused priests still be stopped? We had to go deep into the hidden heart of the Church to answer these questions.

Deaf Children Sex Abuse By Argentine Priests

Two pedophile Roman Catholic priests arrested for allegedly abusing Deaf children in Argentina.

MENDOZA, Argentina -- Two Roman Catholic priests have been arrested on suspicion of sexually and physically abusing at least eight children at a school for youths with hearing disabilities.

The priests are Nicolas Corradi, 82, and Horacio Corbacho, 55.

Three other men who worked at the school in northeastern Argentina were also arrested this week. The suspects have not yet commented publicly about the allegations.

The government of Mendoza province has suspended classes at the Antonio Provolo Institute, the school for children with hearing impairment.

It has also banned faculty and staff from having any contact with students.

The Mendoza archbishop's office expressed solidarity with the victims and said it is cooperating with authorities.

The abuse allegations surfaced after a complaint by provincial lawmaker Daniela Garcia, who spoke to a witness through an interpreter.

"It was the first way so that other witnesses and victims could then come forward and denounce what was happening," Garcia said.

Authorities are taking testimony from students as well as parents who suspect their children were subjected by the accused to oral sex, fondling and sexual intercourse over the past decade, Fabricio Sidoti, the investigating prosecutor told local radio.

Deaf School Children Sign The 9/11 Story

Deaf school children in Texas use sign language to paint a powerful portrait of what happened on September 11.

NEW YORK CITY -- Teaching 9/11: “To them, it’s history, just like Pearl Harbor,” said Chris Causey, a middle school educator in Robertson County, Tennessee. So, as the memories fade, teachers feel challenged to teach 9/11 in some way that is relevant to all ages in the United States.

Deaf school children in Texas use sign language to paint a powerful portrait of what happened on Sept. 11.

In some schools in New Jersey, third graders learn about the K9 rescue teams while 12th graders discuss methods of prisoner interrogation. In Tennessee, older students at Stratford High School conduct a mock rescue at the World Trade Center; others arrange their desks like the seats of an airplane while Williamson County social studies teacher Kenneth Roeten asks students about their everyday morning routines and compares them to headlines just before the attacks.

“I personally cannot think of any other event in American history that has had more of an impact on how everyday Americans live their life,” Roeten wrote in an email. “It has had a profound impact on my life; therefore, I believe it to be my duty as an educator to never stop teaching the shock, horror, sadness and utter disbelief of that day.”

But how? That's what school systems around the country are wrestling with now.

“I don’t think there’s a school system that has said ‘We’re going to focus on this,'” said Colleen Tambuscio, a teacher at New Milford High School in New Jersey who helped write a 9/11 curriculum through the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education in collaboration with the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in Manhattan. “I think what has happened in New Jersey - we’ve had moments of silence; we’ve had commemorative acts that were important. But now we should be getting into the educational piece, where we’re doing more with the education. That’s the trajectory.”

The lessons from the curriculum Tambuscio helped write include political and religious discussions; the history and present state of Islamic extremists; the global impact of the day economically; the ensuing wars; the backlash against Muslims; the change in day-to-day security and privacy implications; the huge personal tragedy; as well as stories of the first responders, extraordinary acts by ordinary citizens and the mission of service many felt afterward... Nyle DiMarco Reads To Deaf Kids In Video Clip

Dancing With the Stars champ Nyle DiMarco reads to Deaf kids in 'adorable' video clip from Twitter.

FREDERICK, MD -- People Magazine: On Friday, the Deaf model who won America's Next Top Model cycle 22 in 2015 and the most recent season of Dancing With the Stars earlier this year took to Twitter to share a heartwarming video.

The clip shows Nyle DiMarco, 26, signing with two young kids and asking them to name the colors in a picture book.

In his own words, the result is quite simply "adorable."

Earlier this year, the showstopper told PEOPLE he "never wanted to hear."

"That's never existed in my life," he said. "I'm happy!"

The model and actor was born in New Jersey and raised in Frederick, Maryland, by his single mom and he's just one of more than 25 Deaf people in his family: His twin brother, his older brother, his parents, grandparents and great-grandparent are all Deaf.

"Growing up, I was always involved in the Deaf community," said the star, who recently established the Nyle DiMarco Foundation which advocates that parents teach their Deaf children American Sign Language even if they plan on getting their child a cochlear implant or hearing aid.

"I started to realize that there are a lot of people who are unaware of Deaf Culture, and I've been given a great platform to reframe the Deaf community," he told PEOPLE. "I want to use my celebrity for good."

Deaf Children "Allowed To Engage In Sexual Activity" At School

Deaf News: Children at a school for the Deaf were mishandled by staff, allowed to misbehave and engaged in sexual activity.

EXETER, UK -- BBC News: Devon and Cornwall Police are now investigating the claims made against Exeter Deaf Academy.

The BBC understands three staff members have been suspended, but the school would not confirm this.

The academy said it would act "quickly if it is found that any improvements need to be made".

Restrain children: Sources from the inquiry told the BBC they received a letter from the whistleblower detailing claims which included staff drinking alcohol on residential trips.

It is claimed the drinking led to a lack of supervision of students who engaged in sexual activity.

The letter also alleges excessive force was used to restrain children, along with techniques that were not authorised by regulators.

The concerns were raised, the letter says, but not dealt with.

The allegations prompted Devon and Cornwall Police and Devon Social Services to launch an investigation.

Exeter Deaf Academy said: "We continue to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation by Devon County Council and Devon and Cornwall Police and cannot and should not comment until this is complete and the facts have been properly established.

"We care deeply about the welfare of our students, and will act quickly if it is found that any improvements need to be made at the Academy."

The academy - a mixed, residential facility that currently has 76 students aged between four and 24 - would not comment on whether or not any staff had been suspended.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We are not yet in a position to comment regarding whether there have been any criminal offences or other breaches of legislation, however, the safety of the students is paramount and we will work together to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted."

Devon County Council said it was "working closely" with the police and the academy's chief executive.

The latest report by the regulator Ofsted, in February this year, was critical of the academy saying it "requires improvement".

Rebecca Ronald, who has featured in campaigns for Lorna Jane and Billabong, was working with young children in Uganda when she 'healed' the girl using the 'power of faith'.

The Miss Universe Australia finalist took to Instagram to share the story and claimed that after she uttered the words 'you are about to hear for the first time', the young girl was instantly cured.

The model, who is from Palm Beach, on the Gold Coast, posted a picture of her and a group of African children - one of whom she singled out as the girl she healed.

'As Riley & I were preaching, she stood out to me & I had such a compassion for her,' she wrote.

'Afterwards while we were praying for each individual, I asked her to come aside & as I went to speak, her friend intervened to say that she was Deaf.

'I had just finished preaching on what God had been teaching me about; the power of Faith.. and knowing my God can do all things, I said to her, 'you are about to hear for the first time'.

'I prayed once - nothing happened, then I felt Holy Spirit say, put your fingers in her ear and command them to open.

'Sounds easy, but in the moment, it can be the hardest thing because is requires the very thing I taught on, Faith with power which opposes human reasoning - so I did and when I finished praying, her face lit up and overjoyed she said 'I can HEAR for the first time!!!!''

She said that this was an example of the 'Heavenly Father's' love in action.

'The Lord told me to expect miracles this trip & miracles is what we are seeing,' she said.

'While westerners think they are the blessed ones not living in poverty, I disagree because these easterners get it, and I believe that is why I have never witnessed the power of God like I have here.'

Hearing People Should Sign For Themselves

WATCH: A psychologist is calling for signing to be available as a ‘foreign language’ option for hearing children.

LONDON, UK -- Dr Jim Cromwell said that learning British Sign Language (BSL) would benefit all students’ education and make life easier for Deaf people, bringing ‘extraordinary’ benefits for those without hearing.

In an ‘ideal world’ BSL would form part of the National Curriculum and be a compulsory element in mainstream schools, he added.

“Bilingualism gives a huge advantage in terms of thinking skills,” said Dr Cromwell, a clinical psychologist at Exeter Deaf Academy.

Having a wider population of people with BSL would make life easier those without hearing, he said. More than 900,000 people in the UK are severely or profoundly Deaf, according to the charity, Action on Hearing Loss.

Dr Cromwell also believes that those of the country’s 45,000 Deaf children who are taught in mainstream schools are not receiving the education they deserve.

“There is not the right support for them,” he said.

“They are being helped by teaching assistants with Level 2 BSL – that’s less than an O Level.

“Schools are getting away with that. There is the attitude of ‘they (Deaf children) are not doing well, but they are disabled, aren’t they?’

“Relying on education through spoken (rather than signed) lessons is like trying to learn maths A Level in Russian. Lip reading is 40 per cent guess work.”

Dr Cromwell, who has BSL at Level 4 – equivalent to degree standard – is believed to be the only clinical psychologist on the staff of a UK specialist school.

While a Deaf child ‘can do everything except hear’ many came to the Exeter school with attachment disorder, language delay, and behavioural problems because of a lack of access to BSL.

“They fall behind in primary school and are regarded as ‘problem students’,” he said. “Not all of our students are like that by any means, but we get those.”

Linguistic deprivation was one of the consequences of deafness that often began in the home as 90 per cent of children who were born Deaf had Hearing parents.

“Some (parents) will have never met a Deaf person, have no BSL and struggle to know what to do,” he said.

Their children were then learning BSL from a parent who was also learning the signing language. That might lead to learning deals that could give rise to behavioural problems, said Dr Cromwell.

Further problems might arise at schools without teachers qualified in BSL at a high level.

Part of the problem was that BSL was seen by many as a ‘pidgin’ form of English, instead of a language that was ‘heir to a rich cultural landscape’.

Widespread learning and use of BSL would help address many of those problems leading to an extraordinary increase in the well-being of Deaf children, said Dr Cromwell.

Many Deaf and Hard of Hearing children the world over do not have access to education, often because they are viewed as mentally challenged, unimportant, mute. This appeal is about making the world a better and safer place for Deaf children everywhere, but specifically in a very special place called Monze, Zambia.

In the village of Monze, Zambia, we are trying to build a school for over 60 Deaf and Hard of Hearing children whose parents and guardians have no resources to give them the proper education, health care and adequate living conditions needed to ensure their survival. We want to build a school in which to instruct and house these children, but also to create the kinds of self-sustaining projects that will be necessary to keep the school up and running once it has been constructed.

The Zambian government does not care about these children, and their parents are often uneducated and helpless. There is currently only one teacher working with the children of Monze, Zambia. Her name is Lisa Zahra, and she has been working tirelessly to provide appropriate education and protection for these Deaf and Hard of Hearing children.
