ADELAIDE -- The 2016 Australian Deaf Games will occur in Adelaide on 9th to 16th January 2016. Day 1 - Athletics and Open Ceremony.

In 2012 Events South Australia, with support from Deaf Community & Sports SA, successfully bid for the 2016 Australian Deaf Games and has continued to assist and facilitate the staging of the Games.

The 2016 Australian Deaf Games is being centred in the vibrant City of Adelaide, utilizing the many world-class sporting venues situated within the surrounding Parklands and the city fringe.

The Adelaide Games will be the “must be at” event for Australia’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in 2016, providing a unique opportunity for everyone within and connected with the community to network, meet new people, celebrate with friends and colleagues, compete...and be inspired.

Deaf Sports Australia and the Games Organising Committee are delighted that Adelaide High School on the Western Parklands has agreed to host the Games Hub, including a comprehensive Cultural/Social Program, a Deaf Community Expo, a social/recreational “hangout” and the usual Games Hub administrative facilities and services.

With up to 15 different sporting competitions and a wide variety of events that celebrate and showcase Deaf Culture, the 2016 Games promises to be the biggest Deaf community event in Adelaide’s history and the best Games ever! Over 1,000 Deaf and Hard of Hearing people and up to 150 volunteers are set to join in the festivities.

A variety of sports are being played, including cricket, basketball, futsal, touch football, netball, athletics, tennis and golf. These sports will be hosted in a “who’s who” of iconic Adelaide stadiums including the Netball Stadium, the Athletics Stadium and the Adelaide Arena.

The 2016 Australian Deaf Games will be formally opened by the Hon. Tony Piccolo, Minister for Disabilities, Minister for Police, Minister for Correctional Services, Minister for Emergency Services and Minister for Road Safety.

Deaf Protest Rally At The White House In D.C.

WATCH [ASL] - Information updates on the Deaf protest at the White House in Washington, District of Columbia.

WASHINGTON -- Deaf protest rally will be held on September 5th and 6th 2015 at the white house in Washington DC. The protest is all about unemployment, discrimination, civil rights and language barriers in the United States. Here's the information of the location, time, meet, trip, and employment statistics.

The White House announces a new location for the protest area at the Ellipse Park, instead the Lafayette Square due to the renovation. Up to 20,000 Deaf people gathering at the park at 10 am - 4 pm - as seen on the map: Here.

This is an explanation on the base of erroneous information on the percentage of Deaf unemployment. Reading and understanding statistics are complicated. It's imperative to be critic of any research or papers with numbers: 2014 Disability Statistics Annual Report.

Gallaudet Report - There are some statistics investigating the employment rate of working-age individuals with hearing loss in the United States. The statistics for 2013 are made available in the Disability Statistics Compendium, specifically Table 2.3. The data within Table 2.3 is based on data from the 2012 American Community Survey from the Census Bureau.

The Internet Opens A Window To The Deaf World

While mainstream media still struggles to integrate diversity into programming, the internet offers a vastly different experience. People around the globe, of all backgrounds and abilities, are uploading original new content every day, smashing boring stereotypes and changing the way we view different cultures. With a larger number of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people sharing their opinions, ideas, and even their jokes, wider audiences are opening up to the real experience of deafness and Deaf communication.

Thanks to the web, the lines between Deaf and Hearing entertainment are beginning to blur. Because it is so easy to add captioning now, Deaf video creators are sharing their blogs, their art, and their lives with audiences who they may not have been able to reach in the past. By making their videos accessible, Deaf people have the opportunity to frame their own experiences and creatively express themselves without being filtered by hearing editors and producers.

Deaf and Hearing Network, DHN is a news agency that makes excellent use of YouTube to share information in a fully accessible way.

ASL Nook is an educational YouTube series which teaches ASL and showcases a Deaf family.

Don't Shoot the Messenger is an upcoming YouTube comedy series which centers around the awkward moments and daily misunderstandings of an ASL interpreter living and working in New York City.

Closed Captioning [CC] and subtitling are both processes of displaying text on a television, video screen, or other visual display to provide additional or interpretive information for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

Captions and Subtitles are essentially the same and typically used as a transcription of the audio portion of a program as it occurs (either verbatim or in edited form), sometimes including descriptions of non-speech elements. Other uses have been to provide a textual alternative language translation of a presentation's primary audio language which is usually burned-in (or "open") to the video and not selectable (or "closed")... ISIS Using Sign Language To Recruit Deaf Terrorists

ISIS militants are using sign language to show that even people with disabilities can wage jihad for the Islamic State, a report said.

In their latest recruitment video, titled “From Who Excused To Those Not Excused,” a pair of Deaf and mute fighters brandishing machine guns issued threats and urged Westerners to join their campaign of terror, NBC News reports.

The extremists claim to be working as traffic police in the Iraqi city of Mosul, which has become an ISIS stronghold in recent months. They are wearing black jumpsuits and military equipment fitted with handcuffs and ammunition as they speak about their desire to “slaughter” their enemies and radicalize others who will do the same.

Using both Arabic and English subtitles, the video begins with the statement: “We, the Deaf and mute, direct our message to the Islamic world.”

“To the Muslims in Europe, both Arab and non-Arab, the way is open before you for you to come to the land of the Kilafah,” one of the militants continues, using sign language.

“The Islamic State is expanding…and we say to America, Britain, Italy and France, who have frantically mobilized against the Muslims, and we say to the rulers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, who have allied with them…the Messenger said, ‘We have only come to you with slaughter,’ and we will surely come and slaughter you, by Allah’s permission.”

Alex Kassirer, a researcher at the global security firm Flashpoint Intelligence, says the video “represents an attempt by the group to recruit other physically or otherwise impaired individuals, as well as demonstrates the multifaceted responsibilities of those in its ranks,” according to NBC News. Joshua Beckman: No More Deaf Schools?

Do you care about Deaf Schools? by Joshua Beckman.

The video producer by Joshua Beckman also known as vlogger posted on YouTube social networking for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community. This vlog in ASL storytelling of the Deaf Schools and education the community.

You care about Deaf schools right? Well I too, care about the Deaf schools.

Did you know that many of those schools endure hardship? What struggles are there, you might ask? Lack of moral support from the government, community, staff, administration, teachers, parents. Support is naught and hard to find. There are funding constraints as well.

Now you are watching me in disbelief. Worrying, disappointed; feeling angry, frustrated, heart-wrenched. Me too, I am in the exact same boat as you are.

What can the Deaf community do to help? There is a solution… but it is not an imminent fix. They are as following:

1) All Deaf schools must have at least 75% Deaf people working there. What I meant by 75% is, for instance: chefs, landscape maintenance workers, custodians, teachers, education assistants, staff, support staff, administration et cetera. All positions available must be at least 75% employed by Deaf people.

With that being said, the system itself must change first. How? We, the Deaf people take initiative with the due process.

2) The names of the Deaf schools themselves must change.

It all boils down to the word ‘for’ inside the name of the school. It bears a negative connotation. Essentially it means a population for you [hearing people] to serve, and to provide support. The word ‘for’ is archaic. Why don't we use Deaf schools instead? More positive. That term is a direct reflection of the Deaf community

3) Deaf E-D-U-C-A-T-I-O-N, we must take back what belongs to us.

We decide. We control. We govern and modify policies accordingly. Not them, hearing people. The government workers must no longer be in such position with power. Again, we decide. Doing so, we all must collaborate together, collectively.

National Anthem ASL Signer Treshelle Edmond at Super Bowl.

PHOENIX, AZ -- A Deaf actress Treshelle Edmond from San Bernardino, California, ASL Interpretation of the National Anthem was live broadcast on the NBC Sports.

The PepsiCo's sponsorship of the American Sign Language artist performance of the National Anthem and America the Beautiful on the NBC Sports at Super Bowl XLIX in University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale Arizona.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline partners with Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services to provide a Hotline staffed by Deaf Advocates who communicate in American Sign Language and answer calls from 9am-5pm PST, Monday through Friday.

But what about calls that occur after 5pm and on weekends when the Deaf advocates are not available to receive calls due to lack of funding?

Instead, calls are routed to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, where hearing advocates answer using interpreters after hours. We need fully trained Deaf advocates that can answer using American Sign Language any time they are needed. Who do we want to answer the call? Help us expand our program so Deaf Advocates are able to answer the call, 24/7.

Deaf Bulgaria in Dancing Stars - Full Documentary with subtitles.

Dancing Stars is the Bulgarian version of Dancing with the Stars. Nuri Yasharov the dancing star is Deaf actor from Bulgaria, this episode documentary of the reality television show released into public.

Yasharov grew up in a boarding school for children with hearing impaired in Sofia, where he is acquired contacts and communication skills.

As a performer in "Gestim" and later a theater artist "Mim-Art" that he have participated in Bulgarian and international scenes experience in team work and communicating with Deaf and hearing people from different social and age groups. He gained considerable experience and skill in coordinating various types of activities and the organization of work.
