Nedoslov Russian Deaf Theatre

Deaf Russian actors touch audiences with the language of the heart.

MOSCOW, Russia -- At Moscow’s Nedoslov Theatre, Deaf and Hard of Hearing actors put on plays in sign language. The theatre was set up to give acting opportunities to graduates of the Russian State Specialized Institute of Arts, which is the only institution in the world to prepare actors with hearing difficulties.

There, they learn to translate well-known stories or Shakespearean sonnets into gestures, speaking in the wordless but expressive language of the body. When on stage, they have special ways of communicating with each other and catching the beat of music they can’t hear but can dance to.

RTD follows the actors inside and outside the theatre. Some work mundane jobs in factories. Others have ventured into performing arts that would seem off limits, such as the hip hop dancer who ‘pops’ in street dance battles to the twins belting out pop ballads in Russian Sign Language before adoring female fans.

Their teachers, directors and coaches explain the role words play in Deaf People’s lives, and how art gives them the confidence to take on the wider world. The shows that students and graduates put on touch mixed Deaf and Hearing audiences because they use the only language everyone can understand, that of the heart.

Deaf Players Innovate VRChat Community

Deaf people in VRChat talk about their life experiences and community.

Syrmor channel on YouTube shares the anime video in english subtitles of Deaf Awareness and educating about bullying by Hearing People.

Ray the anime girl in the beginning was born Deaf. Sio the anime girl that first appears at 3:06 became hard-of-hearing after the accident. She has diplacusis and tinnitus. Diplacusis makes it so that she hears double.

Sio will hear sounds at 2 different pitches simultaneously making it difficult to decipher what is being said. This makes some voices understandable and others not depending on the pitch of the voice. Tinnitus is a ringing in the ear that can be similar to the sensation of buzzing, hissing, chirping, or whistling.

Translating from American Sign Language into english isn't exactly 1:1 because of grammar structure. Certain lines were translated the way they were because of the context of the whole conversation. Big thanks to Quentin for helping me translate https://twitter.com/urquentin.

Ice Cream Parlour Employs Deaf People

The Brazilian ice cream parlour employs Deaf people.

ARACAJU, Brazil -- A Deaf man has bucked the trend, overcoming obstacles and challenges, to open his own business with an inspiring workplace initiative that breaks new ground for people with hearing difficulties.

Breno Oliveira’s ice cream bar, il Sordo, in Aracaju, north east Brazil, is the first outlet in the South American country where the majority of his staff are Deaf.

Mr Oliveira, 24, who was born with full hearing loss, came up with the idea of opening and running the unique parlour after becoming frustrated at the employment opportunities open to Deaf people.

He decided to challenge the perceptions of what workers with impaired hearing could do by striking out on his own and proving his disability was not a limitation.

Mr Oliveira said: “The idea was to create something that would be inclusive for everyone. il Surdo, happens to be a bar run by deaf people. But it is a shop selling tasty and delicious desserts for everyone.”

'Dawn of the Deaf' (2016) - Short Horror Film

WATCH: English Subtitles - 'Dawn of the Deaf' (2016) The Short Film.

When a sonic pulse infects the Hearing population, a small group of Deaf people must band together to survive.

LONDON, U.K. -- “Dawn of the Deaf” is a zombie movie where we see the origins of the zombie apocalypse through four separate narratives, all involving Deaf people: A few cruel-hearted pranksters taunt Deaf people on the streets; a Deaf person gives an inspirational speech at a fundraising event as his wife watches; a lesbian couple try to work out their relationship problems; a teenager is being sexually abused by her stepfather.

Rob Savage’s “Dawn of the Deaf” is kind of maddening in that to describe the film is to give away its central premise, which is revealed at the very end. It’s a film that is all set-up. It feels like the first 10 minutes to a feature that has a brilliant idea for a zombie film that we will hopefully see someday. It’s too good an idea to go to waste. Savage remember when he saw the credits and shouting “Dammit!” when it was over. he say all of this as a high compliment, by the way.
