Grumpy Cat - Internet Star Dies Aged 7

Internet sensation Grumpy Cat, Tardar Sauce passes away at 7 years old.

MORRISTOWN, Arizona -- Grumpy Cat, whose sourpuss expression entertained millions on the internet and spawned hundreds of memes, national television commercials and even a movie, died at age seven.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

Her owners posted on social media that she experienced complications from a urinary tract infection. "She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha," they wrote.

"Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough," her owners said.

The cat's real name was Tardar Sauce and the owners were never sure what her breed was. Her website said her grumpy look was likely because she had a form of feline dwarfism. They said despite her face, she is cuddly and loved to be held and rubbed.

She rose to fame after her photos were posted on Reddit in 2012. Her owners said it was suggested the photo was a fake, so they posted a few videos to prove otherwise.

Since then, Grumpy Cat made appearances on "Good Morning America," ''CBS Evening News," even "American Idol" and "The Bachelorette." She's done television commercials for Honey Nut Cheerios and took photos with hundreds of fans at South by Southwest.

In 2014, Lifetime produced a movie called "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever." She was voiced by "Parks and Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza.

Owner Tabatha Bundesen founded Grumpy Cat Ltd. and created a website that included an online shop featuring 884 items, including T-shirts and mugs with the cat's picture.

The feline's net worth was never disclosed but in 2013, her owners say it was six figures. Last year, online speculation estimated her to be worth in the millions.

Grumpy Cat had more than 8 million followers on Facebook, 2.5 million on Instagram and more than 1.5 million on Twitter.

Nyle DiMarco Slams Fallon, Foxx For Mocking Deaf People

Controversy: Nyle DiMarco outraged at Jamie Foxx, Jimmy Fallon for making fun of the Deaf with sign language on ‘The Tonight Show’

NEW YORK CITY -- Nyle DiMarco is outraged at actor Jamie Foxx and Jimmy Fallon for a skit he says mocks Deaf people.

Jamie Foxx was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday night and at one point Fallon tossed to a break. As he's tossing, Jamie is doing fake sign language to the camera.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

The audience laughed, but Nyle - who is Deaf - is outraged. The winner of both "Dancing With the Stars" and "America's Next Top Model" is shocked the skit was broadcast, saying, "How was this allowed? Where's the cultural sensitivity. Not comedy when you make fun of others."

Matlin tweeted on Friday, I wouldn't say I "slammed" but I'd love to meet @iamjamiefoxx and teach him signs! There are other things in the world far worse to "slam!"

Nyle DiMarco is calling out Jamie Foxx and Jimmy Fallon.

The season 22 winner of Dancing With the Stars, who was also the first fully Deaf contestant in the show's history, is upset at Foxx for making up sign language during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night.

On Saturday, the 28-year-old model and advocate for those hard of hearing shared a passionate letter on Twitter addressing to the Oscar winner.

"Jamie Foxx's behavior with Jimmy Fallon on Fallon Tonight should not be tolerated anywhere," the statement began. "We simply do not make fun at the expense of other cultures especially those with a history of being marginalized. When we do this, progress takes a step backward."

Adding that sign language is important to him because it is the bedrock of the Deaf community, DiMarco wrote that only two percent of Deaf people have access to education in the language.

"That is why I started Nyle DiMarco Foundation," he continued. "We are working with other organization to ensure every Deaf child has a usable language before the age of 5. What Foxx did on Fallon Tonight made our struggle that much harder."

On Friday night, after witnessing Foxx's actions, the America's Next Top Model winner also tweeted his frustration with the actor.

"Jamie Foxx it is straight up disrespectful to make up sign language," the 28-year-old model tweeted with video of Foxx randomly moving his hands and fingers. "Everything is in gibberish."

@iamjamiefoxx, It is straight up disrespectful to make up sign language.

Everything is in gibberish. pic.twitter.com/X5AHkusq3o.

In a second tweet, he blasted Fallon, asking "how was this allowed? Where's the cultural sensitivity? Not comedy when you make fun of others."

@iamjamiefoxx Also @jimmyfallon @FallonTonight how was this allowed?

Where's the cultural sensitivity. Not comedy when you make fun of others.

Deaf Mum Hears Son's Voice For The First Time

Deaf mum hearing her family speak for the first time goes viral on social media, will bring you tears of joy.

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom -- The Channel 4 documentary has single handedly restored our faith in humanity, after the TV show introduced us to single mum Rebecca, her sister Amy and her three-year-old son.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

9 years ago Rebecca had an unexplained loos of hearing in her right ear. Then, as if that wasn't enough, 16 weeks ago she tragically went deaf in her left ear too.

"I've had to learn new ways of trying to communicate with him" explains a defiant Rebecca, as she bravely battles her condition, to give her son the best possible life.

However, with the help of audiologist Hugh Cooper, everything is about to change for the better.

When the mother of one visited Manchester Royal Infirmary with her sister Amy as part of Breaking the Silence Live, we see her hear again for the first time since she lost her hearing, thanks to the help of a cochlear implant.

The show has clearly struck a cord with viewers who have taken to Twitter to discuss the importance of communicating with Deaf people so that they don't feel alienated.

People take being able to hear for granted, have the upmost respect for my deaf family and all they've achieved #breakingthesilence.

Neville Donates $32k To Deaf Football Teams

Gary Neville donated $32,000 (£20,000) to Great Britain's Deaf Football team to send the squad to the Deaflympics.

LONDON, UK -- Daily Mail: Gary Neville has paid £20,000 out of his own pocket to book Great Britain's Deaf Football squads their places at the Deaflympics.

GB Deaf Football do not receive public funding and made an appeal for financial assistance last month as they tried to put together enough money for the deposit which would guarantee their spot at next year's event in Samsun, Turkey.

The organisation needed to raise £17,750 before December 1 but what appeared to be a tough task melted away when Manchester United legend Neville stumped up the whole lot, with interest, after being alerted to the cause on Twitter.

Responding to a tweet from United fan Jimmy McBride to the Premier League and Football Association asking for their support, Neville wrote on Sunday: 'I will do it if they won't'.

And he has followed through on his promise, with GB Deaf Football posting a screenshot of their justgiving website on Wednesday which showed the Sky Sports pundit's donation had landed in their account.

They wrote: 'It's official. Thank you @GNev2 for donating £20,000 to send us to the Deaflympics 2017.'

GB Deaf Football need to lay on training sessions and warm-up matches in their preparations for the Deaflympics, as well as finding funds for flights, hotels and physiotherapy.

While Neville has paid for the deposit, the group still need to secure a further £105,000 to ensure both men's and women's squads can take part next summer.

Neville is the second leading football personality to make an important pledge to British Deaf Football in the space of 12 months.

In 2015, Jack Butland made a £5,000 donation to help send the women's team to this year's World Cup.

At the time, Butland said: 'I've learnt a lot from major tournaments, experiences I'll never forget, I'd love for you to experience the same.'

Nyle DiMarco Reads To Deaf Kids In Video Clip

Dancing With the Stars champ Nyle DiMarco reads to Deaf kids in 'adorable' video clip from Twitter.

FREDERICK, MD -- People Magazine: On Friday, the Deaf model who won America's Next Top Model cycle 22 in 2015 and the most recent season of Dancing With the Stars earlier this year took to Twitter to share a heartwarming video.

The clip shows Nyle DiMarco, 26, signing with two young kids and asking them to name the colors in a picture book.

In his own words, the result is quite simply "adorable."

Earlier this year, the showstopper told PEOPLE he "never wanted to hear."

"That's never existed in my life," he said. "I'm happy!"

The model and actor was born in New Jersey and raised in Frederick, Maryland, by his single mom and he's just one of more than 25 Deaf people in his family: His twin brother, his older brother, his parents, grandparents and great-grandparent are all Deaf.

"Growing up, I was always involved in the Deaf community," said the star, who recently established the Nyle DiMarco Foundation which advocates that parents teach their Deaf children American Sign Language even if they plan on getting their child a cochlear implant or hearing aid.

"I started to realize that there are a lot of people who are unaware of Deaf Culture, and I've been given a great platform to reframe the Deaf community," he told PEOPLE. "I want to use my celebrity for good."

Nyle DiMarco Slams Fox News 'Deaf and Dumb'

Deaf News: 'Dancing with the Stars' winner, Nyle DiMarco slams FOX News for 'Blind, Deaf and Dumb' headline in the United States.

LOS ANGELES -- Nyle DiMarco took offense to one of Fox News' recent online editorial stories.

The opinion piece titled "When It Comes to Hillary Clinton, American Justice Is Blind, Deaf and Dumb," struck a chord with the Dancing With the Stars winner, who shared his grievances with his Twitter followers on Thursday.

"Fox News, I don't appreciate 'Blind, Deaf, and Dumb,'" he wrote. "I'm Deaf and I'm not ignorant at all."

DiMarco added, "Use better words, thanks!"

The 27-year-old model's stance received mixed reviews from his social media followers, with several tweets attempting to clarify the headline. "Better words could have been chosen but doesn't 'dumb' also mean unable to speak?" one commenter inquired.

"I think you may have misread. I don't think they meant that being deaf is automatically accompanied by dumbness," was another response.

"I think you took their words the wrong way, Nyle," someone else tweeted.

DiMarco's commentary also got its fair share of support from the Twitter community. "Leave it to Fox News to be offensive. Poor taste. Nyle, sue them," one tweet suggested.

Another Twitter user sympathized with DiMarco's reaction to the headline. "I agree. I have blind parents with master degrees. I feel media has the disability," she wrote.

"People need to be more respectful, I bet Nyle is more intelligent than the people who wrote this," yet another one of DiMarco's followers responded.

ET viewers got a lesson from DiMarco after he won America's Next Top Model last year. Here he is teaching famous phrases from the popular series.

DiMarco, who is a native of Queens, New York, included a link to an Everyday Feminism article about identifying as sexually fluid. The article notes that people who are sexually fluid are "either always attracted to more than one gender," or "feel that their attraction may shift depending on factors like time, intimacy with certain partners, changes in hormone levels, and so forth."

Needless to say, several of DiMarco's male fans responded excitedly to his tweet.

Leonard Nimoy, Spock of ‘Star Trek,’ Dies at 83

Leonard Nimoy, best known for playing the character Spock in the Star Trek television shows and films, died at 83.

LOS ANGELES -- Leonard Simon Nimoy lived up to his longtime catchphrase: Live long and prosper. Having achieved success in many arenas during his lifetime, the actor, director, writer and photographer has died at age 83. His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, reportedly confirmed his death to the New York Times, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Most widely known for his performance as half-human, half-Vulcan science officer Spock on the classic sci-fi TV show “Star Trek” and its many subsequent film and videogame incarnations, Nimoy was also a successful director, helming “Star Trek” pics “The Search for Spock” and “The Voyage Home,” as well as non-“Star Trek” fare; an accomplished stage actor; a published writer and poet; and a noted photographer. He also dabbled in singing and songwriting.

But despite his varied talents, Nimoy will forever be linked with the logical Mr. Spock. Spotted by “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry when he appeared on Roddenberry’s NBC Marine Corps. skein “The Lieutenant,” Nimoy was offered the role of Spock and co-starred in the 1965 “Star Trek” pilot “The Cage.” NBC execs liked the concept but thought the pilot too cerebral, so they ordered a second pilot of the Desilu production with some script and cast changes (only Nimoy made it through both pilots). The series finally bowed on the Peacock in the fall of 1966. After three seasons, it was canceled in 1969 but would go on to be a hit in syndication, spawning films and other TV incarnations and gaining a huge following of fans known as Trekkers or Trekkies.

Leonard Nimoy was born in Boston, Massachusetts; his parents were Jewish immigrants from the Ukraine, and the language at home was Yiddish. He developed an interest in acting at an early age, first appearing on stage at 8 in a production of “Hansel and Gretel.” He took drama classes for a while at Boston College, and after leaving home to pursue his career in Hollywood, he landed his first lead role in the 1952 film “Kid Monk Baroni.” ... The signer, who was seated to the right of the mayor, was enthusiastically signing throughout the press conference. It appeared as if he was talking to another signer who was seated in the audience.

Some even questioned whether he was a legitimate sign language interpreter. The Twitterverse soon noticed and tweets started taking the Internet by storm.

Within minutes of his TV appearance on Friday, people across the country had taken to the social networking site to express their delight at his efforts.

Although some people questioned whether the interpreter was legitimate, others said he appeared to be translating the Mayor's and health officials' comments via a signer in the audience.

During the conference, de Blasio commented on Dr Spencer, who went bowling in Brooklyn, rode the subway and walked the High Line before he was admitted to Bellevue Hospital Center on Thursday.

Despite Dr Spencer's activities, he told listeners: 'I want to repeat what I said last night: There is no cause for alarm,' according to CBS New York.

'New Yorkers who have not been exposed to an infected person's bodily fluids are simply not at risk. It's crucial to emphasize, it's not an airborne disease, it's not a casual contact disease.'

It comes as Dr Spencer's fiancée, Morgan Dixon, has been allowed to leave Bellevue Hospital Center in New York to return to the couple's home in Harlem.

With a pink scarf wrapped tightly around her face, Miss Dixon was pictured stepping out of an unmarked police car and walking quickly into her apartment this evening.

The 30-year-old, who has not yet shown any signs or symptoms of Ebola, is now under mandatory quarantine for 21 days, the virus's incubation period.

Meanwhile, Dr Spencer, 33, is currently undergoing treatment and remains in a 'stable' condition in isolation at the Manhattan-based hospital, which he was admitted to with a 100.3-degree fever.

According to the latest figures from the World Health Organization, the Ebola death toll is now 4,922, bringing the total of confirmed and suspected cases of the virus to 10,141.

Symptoms of Ebola include a fever, a headache, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle and joint aches and in some cases bleeding. These appear two to 21 days after exposure to the disease, the CDC said.
