Mob Beats Up Deaf Woman Over 'Kidnapping'

A four-month pregnant Deaf woman was beaten up by a mob over suspicion that she was a child lifter.

NEW DELHI, India -- A pregnant and Deaf woman was thrashed by a mob over suspicion of being a child-lifter in northeast Delhi, police said on Sunday, an incident which comes close on the heels of mob attacks over similar rumours in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

Several people have been injured in violence over the rumours in UP over the past week, forcing the state police to warn the public that it has decided to invoke the stringent National Security Act against rumour-mongers.

The four-month pregnant woman was beaten up by a mob in Harsh Vihar on August 27 over suspicion that she was a child lifter, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said.

A resident of southeast Delhi's Tughlakabad, the woman was admitted to a hospital by her family and her condition is stated to be stable, according to police.

The DCP said a case has been registered at the Harsh Vihar police station under Indian Penal Code sections for voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful restraint.

"We have arrested two persons, Deepak (27) and B Shakuntala (52), residents of Mandoli," he said. He urged people not to pay heed to rumours of child abduction.

The woman's family alleged that her in-laws had banished her from their Faridabad home on August 18 and said she was missing since then.

"Somehow the woman reached Harsh Vihar and was staying on a footpath. Locals used to give her food but on August 27, they attacked her over allegations of child lifting," a police officer said.

The family approached the Delhi Police after seeing a video of the incident.

Ice Cream Parlour Employs Deaf People

The Brazilian ice cream parlour employs Deaf people.

ARACAJU, Brazil -- A Deaf man has bucked the trend, overcoming obstacles and challenges, to open his own business with an inspiring workplace initiative that breaks new ground for people with hearing difficulties.

Breno Oliveira’s ice cream bar, il Sordo, in Aracaju, north east Brazil, is the first outlet in the South American country where the majority of his staff are Deaf.

Mr Oliveira, 24, who was born with full hearing loss, came up with the idea of opening and running the unique parlour after becoming frustrated at the employment opportunities open to Deaf people.

He decided to challenge the perceptions of what workers with impaired hearing could do by striking out on his own and proving his disability was not a limitation.

Mr Oliveira said: “The idea was to create something that would be inclusive for everyone. il Surdo, happens to be a bar run by deaf people. But it is a shop selling tasty and delicious desserts for everyone.”

HOUSTON -- Kriston Lee Pumphrey performs National Anthem in American Sign Language with the country superstar Luke Bryan sings the National Anthem and America the Beautiful at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Pumphrey of Michigan has been given the honor to perform the songs in ASL. "I am so excited. It is a huge honor and it is a great opportunity to represent the Deaf community," he says.

Pumphrey, who is biracial and was born Deaf, says life hasn't been easy. He's learned to navigate his way in a judgmental, fast-moving verbal world, and has been able to overcome his disability. Deaf Girl Uses ASL To Communicate With Pet Dog

Deaf Albuquerque girl uses American Sign Language to communicate with pet dog.

ALBUQUERQUE -- A Deaf New Mexico girl is using sign language to communicate with her pet dog. “She does everything with him,” said Neeva’s mom Chelsea Goff. While Neeva, 4, eats, her dog Baxter cleans up her crumbs. When it’s time to go outside and play, he is by her side.

“He is just always with her. If she’s asleep in bed, we can guarantee that he is in her room with her,” said Goff. Neeva and Baxter aren’t your average pair.

“We found out right away after she was born that she didn’t have hearing,” said Goff. Neeva goes to the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe. She communicates using sign language. “So really that is our primary language with her, therefore it’s her primary language with our animals,” said Goff.

Goff went to Animal Humane of New Mexico in August to find a dog that could fit in with her family, particularly one that had enough patience to care for Neeva.

“They had some animals that they thought would fit with our family and sure enough Baxter was one of them,” she said. “It was kind of that love at first sight kind of thing, so we brought him home and things have been great.”

Neeva has taught Baxter how to sit, stay and even go using sign language. Goff said Baxter listens most of the time especially if there is a treat involved.

“To watch them interact and really have active communication is really spectacular to watch,” said Goff. She also said the constant communication between the two has helped Neeva with her signing.

“In the Deaf community you get a sign name and it is usually assigned to you by another Deaf community member, so Neeva gave Baxter his sign name,” she said. Goff said the pair’s relationship is a silent one, yet powerful. Neeva’s family got Baxter for free from Animal Humane after another family who fell in love with him at the shelter, but couldn’t have him paid for his adoption fee.

BOSTON, Massachusetts -- A signing Santa makes a little Deaf girl's holiday. This may the story of the night, the man behind the beard put in a lot of effort to pull off a crist has surprise. Take a look, this is the photo of 6-year-old Sadie Adam on Santa's lap for the first time, to her surprise, Sadie didn't need interpreter.

"Yeah, Santa knew her name, knew how to sign it. Santa knew her how, she stopped dead in her tracks". She stared at him. Santa has been thousands of concern but Sadie was the first for him, too.

Once Santa started doing sign language, she dot the top of the stairs and in awe. Sadie stoppedment her eyes were bright wide open. Valor to alpert has within playing Santa for 15 years. Sadie's mom taught him all he needed to mow. Santa said Merry Christmas. Santa knew she would be speechless.

Santa was happy. He instantly starting tearing. What! Sodie's mom told Santa what her wanted. " I Want a kitchen and a baby, the little girl like any other child who believed". Just the other night they were watching the Grinch and she said "You know, Santa know nice name, flight shy still remembers".

She still talking about it. Hard to tell who was happier. "I felt look I was going to tear up also, I was happy that I make her day. I made her happy, what so many children take granted for this 6-year-old become a magical moment." Sadie's mom says will be many other christmases with you but this one and this Santa will always be remembered.

How Many Senses Do Deaf People Have?

The number doesn't actually matter. What's cool to realize is that it's way more than we previously thought. What's important is that the level, sensitivity, and use that HUMANS get out of a sense isn't uniform across the board. No matter how we may appear to fit the current social construct of 'normal.'

Why does this happen? Because of biodiversity. And the concept of biodiversity is important why?

Many reasons. Here's a big one:

Because the social model of disability has told us for years, that, "while physical, sensory, intellectual, or psychological variations may cause individual functional limitation or impairments, these do not have to lead to a disability unless society fails to take account of and include people regardless of their individual differences."

With so much diversity of ability happening in every single person on the planet, it's amazing that a large majority have banded together to consider themselves "normal" (read: everybody is the exact same) while others are not. "The difference between the needs that many disabled people have and the needs of people who are not labelled as disabled is that non-disabled people have had their dependencies normalized. The world has been built to accommodate certain needs and call the people who need those things independent, while other needs are considered exception." When we realize that we all have different abilities, and consequently, different needs, dependencies that are very real, even though they have been largely 'normalized.' Maybe this helps us see ourselves in others with a little bit more empathy, maybe we find a bit more compassion from within, maybe we recognize our humanity a bit more markedly, and maybe, we can build a more inclusive future. Deaf Boy Signs With Dragons Mascot

Baseball club Dayton Dragons mascot signs to 7-year-old Deaf child.

DAYTON, Ohio -- It is a video being shared around the web after young, Deaf boy from Germantown made a connection with the Dayton Dragons mascot, Heater, that no one was expecting.

Hunter may be a bit camera shy, but he is not shy about his favorite team. "I met heater and Gem," signed the seven year old. The Samworths were at the game on Saturday.

"We were outside getting ready to go in and there was Heater and Gem so Hunter ran up. And so next thing you know, I'm telling Hunter, say. 'It's nice to meet you,'" said Hunter's Mom, Cheri Samworth.

Unexpectedly, a Green Team member escorting Heater, starting signing back to him. So Dad started recording it and that is when the mascot himself joined in. They exchanged names and talked about the big game.

"You can see on the video, his smile is like, he's gets me, he speaks my language, he understands me, Just a completely different experience for Hunter," Cheri said.

"It just froze, everything froze. It was just, the look on his face was just priceless," said Hunter's Dad, Matt Samworth. The Dragons are away so Heater and members of the Green Team have the day off.

What is an Atheist? An atheist is a person who does not believe that any gods exist. Upon seeing numerous frictions and conflicts between religious Christians and non-believers I felt the urge and desire to share my story, a testimony, to explain why I believe in God.

I also wanted to offer some insights into several topics with hope to explain why some people may not believe in God and why I do. And to offer some insights on why some people might have lost their faith in church, religions, God and the Bible. There are logical explanation for the trends that we're witnessing. Deaf Pastor Who Turned Atheist Is 'Vengeful, Pathological Liar' Who Needs to 'Repent;' CNN Article Is 'Full of Lies,' Says Old Church.

Pastor of the Virtual Deaf Church, Justin Vollmar, says he is now an atheist.

After claiming in an explosive CNN article Monday that he began losing his faith in God after being overworked and underpaid at a church run by a tyrannical, golf-loving pastor who made $80,000 a year, Deaf pastor turned atheist, Justin Vollmar, is being dismissed as a "vengeful, pathological liar," who needs to "repent" of his sins by his old church.

"The word that he is spreading about myself and the church is not good and we are going to have to shun him until he is ready to apologize to us. But apparently he is choosing a worse road. I believe the devil is winning him," said Terry Michael Buchholz, senior pastor of the Hampshire View Baptist Deaf Church in Silver Spring, Maryland., where Vollmar worked for seven years.

Vollmar ran the Virtual Deaf Church online for four years before proclaiming in a YouTube video Friday that he is now an atheist, renouncing the virgin birth and the belief that Jesus is the Son of God who was raised from the dead, as well as the Bible being the word of God.

"There is no such thing as Holy Spirit. Word of God is NOT inspired God-breathed book. Church is completely men's invention. All I believe previously as a Christian has been turned upside," he said in complete renunciation of his faith.

"I am coming out of closet. I no longer believe in God. I am an Atheist now. This video explains my journey to doubt."

On Monday, he detailed his descent into atheism in a first-person account published by CNN. He charged that he began losing his faith in Christianity after an experience with an unnamed Christian senior pastor at a church in Silver Spring, Md.

Vollmar said he was made to work "for little pay" for seven years while the senior pastor pulled down a salary of $80,000 a year and lived a life of leisure.

"I was a pastor in Silver Spring, Maryland, working 60 hours a week for little pay. My senior pastor was a harsh taskmaster, scolding me and always pushing me to work harder. Meanwhile, he earned $80,000 a year and played golf two times a week. I lived in poverty and did not see my children much. I got burned out," wrote Vollmar.

"I resigned my position and was shunned by the church. My faith in God was severely shaken. I started to have doubts about the Bible's claims. I questioned whether God's love, which is supposed to reside inside Christians, was real," he said.

In Vollmar's work history on his Linkedin profile, he lists himself as a vlogger and community leader shows that he worked as an associate pastor at Hampshire View Baptist Deaf Church in Silver Spring, Md.
