Deaf Jammed - 1000 Ways To Die

"Deaf Jammed" a car thief dies after getting his head caught in the window of a moving car by the Deaf driver.

DETROIT, Michigan -- 1000 Ways To Die: "Deaf Jammed", Way To Die #130, a hearing man, Mickey was a carjacker. But even worse, he only targeted women and he didn't care if they were pregnant or injured or disabled or dying.

This despicable scumbag was stalking a woman walking to her car alone. She got in her car and was about to shut the back window. Mickey saw a chance to make his move. He poked his head and left arm through the window, but, before he could pull the car-door lock the automatic glass window closed on his neck, crushing his windpipe and stopping his ability to breathe.

The woman drove off with Mickey hitching a ride and it is then revealed she is Deaf. His painful gasps for help were heard by no one.

A mile later and a couple of minutes without air left Mickey unconscious. The driver, who was Deaf and therefore, oblivious to his presence, looked in the mirror and saw Mickey's head sticking out of the window. She rolled down the window and Mickey dropped dead on the road. Justice is served... Instant Karma!

Queensland school investigates allegations of bullying of Deaf student after video posted online in Australia.

BRISBANE, Australia -- A Queensland school is investigating accusations a Deaf student has been subjected to repeated bullying after a video purportedly showing an instance of the alleged abuse surfaced online.

The video, originally posted to social media site 9GAG, shows a group of students surrounding the schoolboy, stomping at him and throwing air punches at him.

The person who posted the video said the incident happened at Victoria Point State High School in Redland City, east of Brisbane, and claims their son is the victim.

"My Deaf son getting harassed at school by these a*******," the person said.

"I have been in contact with the school and yet nothing changes.

"My daughter took this video to show everyone what was happening on a daily basis."

The video has been circulated on other social media sites including Facebook and Reddit.

In a statement to 7NEWS.com.au, the Queensland education department said the school was aware of the video and does not tolerate bullying and violence.

"Victoria Point State High School is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment," the statement read.

"Any situation that threatens the safety and wellbeing of students or others in the school community is treated extremely seriously and dealt with as a matter of priority.

Deaf Players Innovate VRChat Community

Deaf people in VRChat talk about their life experiences and community.

Syrmor channel on YouTube shares the anime video in english subtitles of Deaf Awareness and educating about bullying by Hearing People.

Ray the anime girl in the beginning was born Deaf. Sio the anime girl that first appears at 3:06 became hard-of-hearing after the accident. She has diplacusis and tinnitus. Diplacusis makes it so that she hears double.

Sio will hear sounds at 2 different pitches simultaneously making it difficult to decipher what is being said. This makes some voices understandable and others not depending on the pitch of the voice. Tinnitus is a ringing in the ear that can be similar to the sensation of buzzing, hissing, chirping, or whistling.

Translating from American Sign Language into english isn't exactly 1:1 because of grammar structure. Certain lines were translated the way they were because of the context of the whole conversation. Big thanks to Quentin for helping me translate https://twitter.com/urquentin.

Social Experiment: Being Deaf For A Day

Deaf Awareness: Jenn Chia was Deaf for a day. This is what happened..

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- This video is one that is incredibly close to Jenn Chia heart. Being Deaf for a day has made Jenn more aware of the world around her. It has opened up her mind to a new worldview. Video with English Subtitles.

Before this, Jenn have always deemed the Deaf as, for lack of a better word, incapable of many everyday activities. Yes, she was that stupid and uninitiated.

After this “experiment,” albeit only for a day, she learnt that apart from hearing, the Deaf can do anything a hearing person can... and more.

Without her sense of hearing, she found herself paying more attention when communicating with other people. She became more attentive to signs, cues, and nuances that could indicate what the other person is talking about.

In the making of this video, she realised how much taken words and communication for granted; and how a genuine smile could light up a room, transcending language and senses.

Thank you so much Grab Malaysia for giving her this opportunity to experience something so invaluable.

She want to thank the team as well for supporting her and realising this mini documentary with Jenn Chia. To know more about how you can support the initiative as well, visit website: https://grb.to/GFGSoimjenn.

How To Communicate With Deaf People

Deaf Awareness: "How to communicate with Deaf People"

Dear friends, we understand that it's difficult for Deaf people to understand Hearing people and make friends. And it's also Hard for Hearing people to understand Deaf people as well.

But we all have to be more sensitive and try to understand each other. For example, Hearing people may not understand when Deaf people communicate using Sign Language.

We can try to teach Hearing friends how to communicate with us using Sign Language and Lip Reading. There are no differences between the Hearing and the Deaf. Accept and love with each other.

Building Bridges Within The Deaf Community

"Building bridges within and beyond the Deaf community" Florida college education professor, Dr. Michella Maiorana-Basas.

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- Flagler College Education Professor Dr. Michella Maiorana-Basas discusses how to build bridges of understanding within and beyond the Deaf community, as well as the development of better connections between the local Deaf and Hearing communities in St. Augustine, Florida.

According to Maiorana-Basas, divisions within the Deaf community regarding communicative and educational approaches have created political tension within the field. In her talk, she will discuss how professionals are working toward finding a place of unity and understanding, while remaining true to their philosophical identity. The partnerships, she said, are crucial to advancing progress in the Deaf education field.

Another area worth exploring, she added, is the development of better connections between the local Deaf and Hearing communities in St. Augustine.

“There is potential for developing strong partnerships that would help Deaf individuals feel more supported, and would contribute positively to their overall success,” Maiorana-Basas said. “The key is communication and having an understanding of the needs of the Deaf community.”

In her “Foundations of Deaf Education” course, the Flagler professor has been working with students to find more creative ways of building those bridges between community members, businesses and Deaf community. Her Community Lectures Series talk with address these issues, and possible opportunities of collaboration.

What ‘Deaf’ Means To Me - Amanda McDonough

What ‘Deaf’ means to me with Amanda McDonough.

Deaf activist, actress and Youtuber Amanda McDonough discussion and conversation questions about "What "Deaf" Means to Me" she wanted to talk about something she have been thinking a lot about recently and that is the word "DEAF." Now she grew up in hearing culture in the United States.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

I grew up with hearing family, hearing friends, going to a mainstream school and I didn't have access to signing. I didn't have access to Deaf people and... So, growing up for me that word "DEAF" scared me, because for me, before, that meant that I was going to lose my hearing. That meant that I was going to lose access to oral communication. That meant I might lose my family and my friends. That was scary for me. It was really scary. And it wasn't until after I became physically Deaf that I started searching for people like me and I started searching for a better way to communicate. And I found that in Deaf Culture, in sign language, in the Deaf community.

Now that i am a proud Deaf woman that word death means something so different to me. So, I wanted to share with you what word "DEAF" means to me now.

Now the word "DEAF" means strength. It means having the strength to accept yourself for who you really are. It also means support; having the support of the Deaf community. Having people around me that understand what i go through every single day, all of my struggles. They understand me, they really understand. It also means communication, because now I have this beautiful language that I can always understand I don't have have to struggle with and I have access to communication through new technology like VoIP and oh captioned phones. Different things that help me communicate better. It also, lastly, means intelligence. Why? Because deaf people; we have to be able to think creatively. We have to be able to think outside the box so that we can create new solutions to problems that we have, that don't depend on hearing, and that takes intelligence. So, this is what my new meaning of the word "DEAF" is.

What does "DEAF" mean to you?

Deaf Women More Likely to be a Victim of Abuse

Deaf individuals are more likely to experience domestic violence than hearing individuals in the United States.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Newsnet5: Deaf individuals are one and a half times more likely to be victims of relationship violence than hearing individuals, according to research out of the Rochester Institute of Technology.

"He would grab me, push me down, kept pushing me down, hitting me," said Dawn Marie Fucile, a Cleveland resident who is Deaf. She spoke through an interpreter.

Fucile recalls her three-year abusive relationship which she says happened in Parma two decades ago.

"He got a hold of me and threw me physically, coffee table," she said of her ex-boyfriend who is also Deaf. "I missed it by just an inch."

Fucile, who is 48 years old, said she finally mustered up the strength to call the police. Twice, officers came to her house. Twice, they left without arresting the man.

"Both of the officers that were there, I could understand them, but they were being like 'oh poor you. You can't communicate," she added.

Fucile said the lack of communication services and education among police at that time contributed to a lack of help.

"We know that there are more victims that are Deaf and Hard of Hearing that don't have access to information or services, and that's a big problem," said Linda Johanek, CEO of the Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center in Cleveland.

Johanek, with help from the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center and Cleveland Police, are trying to reverse the problem, which Johanek and Fucile said is only exacerbated by the fact that the Deaf community is tight-knit. For a member, it is difficult to break away, no matter the circumstance.

Through a federal grant, the domestic violence center, its shelter and all five police districts have iPads equipped with video remote interpreters. Officers can take the iPads with them on calls.

Fucile said the technology is a big step in the right direction.
